Route 11 Potato Chips is a must-visit destination for potato lovers and snack enthusiasts. Located in Mt. Jackson, VA, this factory offers free samples of their kettle-cooked potato chips and provides an opportunity to witness the chip-making process through large viewing windows. The final seasoning step involves hand-mixing by two workers, and any imperfect slices are repurposed as feed for local farm cows. The chips are fried in sunflower oil, adding to their unique flavor.

The sample sizes of the chips are whole bags, loved that. My favorite were definitely the Mama Zuma. Got a big bag of those and the assortment bag of all the others.

I have a friend who loves these potato chips, but she does not live in Virginia and finds them hard to get. She asked me to stop by here and get her a bag. I wasn't sure which one, so I took a few photos and sent them to her. The employees here are wonderful, and very patient. we chatted while I waited for my friend to respond. Nice little shop, friendly, atmosphere, and accessible to all.

Diane L — Google review

Enjoy FREE CHIP SAMPLES, and view the entire chip making process through windows. All flavors of chips available for sale. Great place to stop and enjoy!

Ernst K — Google review

It was a very nice place to visit. As soon as we walked in a employee came right up to us, she took us to the window to explain all about making the chips. Then we had the opportunity to go upstairs to see the chips being seasoned and packaged. They had samples for customers to taste and many different types of packages and prices to buy there chips.

Sharon P — Google review

I enjoy seeing how things are made, and I enjoy factory tours especially if they are free. Did not intend to visit this location, but found out we were passing the location so we stopped in for a visit. This was a Friday around 10:30 am in early March, and there were no other customer / bus tours there at the time. Two staff members were on hand to answer any questions, explain the chip making process, and offer samples if we wanted them. Unfortunately photographs are not allowed, which is too bad I would have liked to have shown my family back homeHow potato chips are made but that's fine. I purchased a mini combo pack which is 10 different flavours of 2 oz sized bags for about $15

Tammy F — Google review

This place was awesome! The people there are very knowledgeable and always have a smile on their face. The chips are the best! You can watch their process behind glass. It's really cool.

Route 11 Potato Chips has some of the best chips in the game, so I decided to take an impromptu road trip to their factory in Mt. Jackson, VA.From Monday to Saturday you can watch how the potato chip process takes place through the large windows strategically placed throughout the factory.Free 1 ounce samples are provided so you can narrow down which bag of chips you want to purchase.I walked away with a big ole’ bag of sour cream and onion chips that I enjoyed on my drive home

Terrific experience ... especially if you like potato chips. See them being made from whole potatoes to crispy kettle cooked chips. Amazingly simple & beautifully straightforward. Route 11 uses sunflower oil cooking to make chips in all the popular flavors & in a few unique flavors. Located a little off highway 81 near Mt Jackson VA. Great place to take a break. Route 11 staff is welcoming & friendly. Their chips are delicious. Cheers!

W S — Google review

Friendly staff that let us try a variety of yummy chips. No pictures allowed of production and we got there too late to see the deep frying. We were able to have chips shipped as well as buy for immediate gratification.

Fern R — Google review

Our nieces and nephew enjoyed visiting here. They thought it was neat to see how the chips were made. They enjoyed the samples and enjoyed the brief little history lesson of the company given by an employee. Leaving with a bag of chips made their trip here complete.

Corey M — Google review

Greatest pit stop for a quick pop in esp for potato lovers 🥔 counter people will give a truly micro tour of the viewing windows where you see the sliced potatoes in action glory! Did you know the following things learned from this tour? The final seasoning step is mixed by hand by two workers, one sprinkles, the other hand tosses. The green and fail slices get fed to local farm cows. Chips are fried in sunflower oil. $6.50 for three chip grab bag, no choices take what’s given. FREE samples after “tour”, can try all the flavors! T-shirt’s and other gifty items for sale.

This stop was recommended by our bed & breakfast, and we had a great time. They were not making chips the day we stopped by, but they did have picture displays. Arturo was a great guide. He was able to answer all my wild questions. After the little picture tour, we were offered a basket of samples. I think each sample was 1 oz. We choose 6 of the 9 flavors for our flight of potato chips.

Robert C — Google review

We decided to stop in and visit on our trip from NJ to SC. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Super knowledgeable folks there. We got several samples and then bought what we liked. Well worth the trip. We will visit again for sure.

J. F — Google review

I ordered a variety pack of the 2oz chips. First off, extremely easy to pick the flavors and navigate the website. When I got to the shipping portion, I noticed the “deliver later” portion. Since I didn’t want them for a few weeks, I put a later date. Route 11 staff went above and beyond, by reaching out confirming the details and answering some of my questions. They said it would only take ONE DAY to deliver - and it did. Amazing customer support and most importantly, some of the best chips in this world. I will forever recommend Route 11 Chips.

Jess H — Google review

Super nice people and the chips are fantastic! The various flavors are really good, but honestly their plain chips and salt & vinegar were the biggest surprises for me. We don't regularly buy chips for home, but walked out with 5 bags

Aaron S — Google review

We had a wonderful experience here! The woman working the front desk (Dulce) was welcoming and offered to tell our children all about the potato chip process even though we didn't call ahead. They enjoyed watching thru the windows and sampling all the flavors so they could pick some out to buy. This wouldn't be nearly as fun if the employees were not friendly but they were great!!! Thank you Dulce!

Kristin — Google review

Our family had a great visit to the route 11 chip factory. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the factory and process. Free samples were a hit, well worth the trip over to check it out!

Sarah W — Google review

Gave out Route 11 Chesapeake Crab Chips during the Holidays to our customers. They were a huge hit and I had to put another order in to bring them back to the people who demanded them. The Chesapeake Crab Chips are great and they have J.O. Spice on them! Great product!

Colin M — Google review

The chips are great. They take care to make delicious, thoughtfully prepared, well seasoned and hearty chips.Covid has made the world an interesting place. Route 11 chips is making the best of the new world. There are chips outside for the grab and go folks. There is a pick-up window for those interested in shopping. We hung outside sampling chips and enjoying a nice day.We loved the Dill Pickle chips. We enjoyed reading their post card packets for everyone. My only suggestion would be, sell some local sodas and water with the chips. Let people make it a day out there.Stop by and check them out. They love what they're doing and it shows.

The Car and Carriage Caravan Museum features antique and vintage cars, including an 1892 Mercedes-Benz and a 1908 Baker Electric. It is a great thing to do alongside visiting the Luray Caverns!.

We really enjoyed going through this museum (we are our late 20s). I took several pictures to show my grandpa - he really loves older cars! It was terrific that this was included with our tickets to Luray Caverns - and I would consider this a don't miss attraction if you're already visiting them. They had a wide variety of cars over several decades. Go take a look!

Holly B — Google review

Small car museum but lots crammed into it all. Amazing cars, it had some of the rarest and important vehicles in vehicle history. Some of Roosevelt’s vehicles. There were several cars worth a few million dollars each. Amazing collection.

Deb C — Google review

I loved the experience inside the place. The cars are arranged chronologically. There is a float and even an RR. The cars are in excellent condition. It is worth visiting and seeing each of the cars in detail. The place is small but has what you need. They even have mannequins dressed in period clothing. They have a wide variety of cars.

José C — Google review

You will love this place if you are a vintage car fan. It has a great collection of cars from the early 1900s. You may not see some of the cars anywhere in the world. You will get free access to it if you buy the ticket for the Luray Caverns.

Shah C — Google review

This is such a cool historic car museum! I'm not at all a car guy but really enjoyed looking at all of these older cars! Lots of cool designs and crazy to see how we have advanced over the years.

Michael E — Google review

Unexpected little gem of old vehicles museum included in Luray Caves ticket.Small space filled with cars - likely would be better in larger space allowing to examine cars from multiple directions.Still, great selection in fantastic condition.

Sam A — Google review

Loved strolling through the museum. The pass to the Caverns covers entry to the museum and a few other nearby attractions. Lots of vintage automobiles on display. Well maintained.

Varun K — Google review

Approximately 30 very old cars from the first few decades of automobile mass production. Some big name manufacturers you would recognize, and others you won't. Very good condition vehicles and useful information posted.

M Z — Google review

This Museum is for Car lovers only!!! A very good collection of old, vintage and amazing cars of reputed brands showcased at this place. Ford, Rolls Royce, Chervolet, Buik, Stanley, Baker brand cars from the 18th and 19th centuries displayed in the museum. It's a very rare collection of cars. Don't worry about the ticket as it's included in the Luray Caverns Ticket. You can spend half an hour in the museum.

Amol M — Google review

A big collection of vintage cars to attract the car lovers. All the 1900 century cars and how the technology advanced from there to now-a-days are well presented in the packed museum. Bonus is free admission with the Luray cavern ticket and you don’t have to pay additional fees.

Nishan B — Google review

The Luray Valley Car and Carriage Museum is an absolute gem 💎, I would call it a car lovers paradise. While the museum is only small, it does make up with some very special exhibits that I have not seen before. The cars are in great condition and well looked after. If you are visiting the Luray Caverns and not taking the time to visit the car museum, you are letting the best in life go by.

Tramp T — Google review

Wow! Nice to see all vintage cars from initial Era and horse pulling vehicles as well. Lots of collection. Getting entry with Luray caverns tickets.

Manikandan N — Google review

This is a nice little museum. It’s included with cost of admission to the caverns on the same property. It’s probably a little bit too small as a stand alone attraction, but it’s worth the time to pass through and look around at these old rides while you’re there. One unique thing I liked was the old shop stuff, like the tire vulcanizer, the coil tester, and vintage gas pump. It would be cool if there were more and/or a tour guide(perhaps recorded on a device so you could listen with ear buds). The old kid stuff was interesting. They have a souvenir/gift shop here too.

K L — Google review

The car museum was an unexpected delight. Even for those not particularly inclined towards cars, the collection was impressive. From vintage classics to modern marvels, the museum showcased a diverse array of automobiles. The attention to detail and the historical context provided for each vehicle spoke volumes about the dedication and care put into curating this exhibit. In summary, Luray Caverns offers a dual delight - a journey through nature's time-honored masterpiece and a captivating tour of automotive history.

Vinutha G — Google review

Incredible collection of vintage cars, wagons and coaches. Collection could use a bigger space than it has currently has. Admission included with Luray cavern tickets

Ed R — Google review

This was a very interesting place and amazing how well these cars are taken care of and how little they cost back in the day. It is free with the caverns ticket.

Jawana W — Google review

Classic and vintage car collection. Literally want to ride all the cars and carriages. Good experience to visit an amazing museum.

Amna K — Google review

An amazing collection of vintage cars maintained in pristine condition. They have one of the oldest commercially produced Mercedes Benz, lots of carriages, Ford, Chevy etc… They have a couple of cars brands that I never heard of.This place is a car enthusiast’s dream. The only drawback is that some of the lights are not well positioned and the place is super crammed.

Viswanathan R — Google review

Great collection with a wide variety and sampling of designs so you can really see how cars changed during the early years. Pristine condition, too. Not like the stereotypical roadside attraction, with 5-19 cars with faded paint and cracking leather. There a LOT of cars, all museum quality.

Nature & Parks

The Luray Caverns, located in Virginia, are one of the most well-known and largest caverns on the East Coast of the United States. These vast underground tunnels have been forming for millions of years and showcase stunning natural wonders such as colossal stone formations, crystal clear pools, glistening draperies, and soaring stone columns. Visitors can tour the caverns and marvel at 140-ft. natural columns, colorful stalactites, and brick walkways.

This cavern is truly one of the.most spectacular natural wonders I have seen in my life. The history of how this cave was found by accident about 150 years ago is amazing. The tour of the cavern was well planned and thought out and responsibly preserved. The tour takes about an hour to walk and a very good camera is highly recommended.I suggest visiting during the off peak season so that you feel rushed through the cave. There is a small Cafe, a gift shop and a few other shops.I highly recommend this park to those who enjoy nature and for those who want to experience a once in a lifetime thrill.Pictures do not do this cave justice. It must seen in person to appreciate the beauty and amazement of this place.

Jaime B — Google review

I heard from someone working at the front royal visitor's center that Luray caverns was the best in the area. It was a good 45 minute drive but it definitely did not disappoint! It was beautiful!!We went on a Monday evening and it was empty. They took our photos at the entrance and ended up being really cute souvenirs. The caverns themselves were really big. We took our time and read through all 19 stops on the tour (they had self guided tours with a brochure) I liked that we were able to go at our own pace and be able to take photos/ videos without other people photo bombing. There were pretty little lakes and huge formations. Great trip!

Laura S — Google review

A must see! Superbly arranged, roomy for those who may suffer from claustrophobia. Nearly all paths are brick layer and the path is very easy going. There is no climbing or such. Tour is self guided and takes about an hour. Plenty of parking. There is a very nice antique car collection, which is included on the $30.00 entry fee. Highly recommended!

Peter P — Google review

It's no doubt a neat trip for visiting a cave but the company is letting it slide. In the past ten years, the price has gone up and the tours are no longer guided. We visited today and it was a near free-for-all in the cave. A lot of people were touching the rock formations and leaving trash in the cavern. At this rate, considering how delicate the caves are, I wouldn't be surprised if it were eventually closed off to the public.

Nicholas H — Google review

The off season is the best time to visit. Absolutely no lines, many times we were the only ones in an area. The staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. Off season lol. The caves are incredible and stunning. The fun thing is they actually have a pretty cool car selection which we all enjoyed. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Steve T — Google review

Absolutely gorgeous and worth the trip from Baltimore (and the ticket price). We got permission to go backward through the caverns and it was nice because it made it less crowded. I do imagine that they’ll not allow it anymore, though, because I could tell a few of them were slightly annoyed by it. Don’t ask about it and definitely don’t reference this post.

Tyler S — Google review

The most beautiful and largest cave in the East coast you must see! It would take about an hour to walk through the cave but we really enjoyed every moment of it! Although it was crowded, it’s still plenty rooms and opportunities for you to taking pictures! Great place!

Kaylie C — Google review

Really cool and atmospheric caverns. Very long trail (1.25mi) with lots of stunning views. Wasn’t crowded (mid of may) and all staff members were very friendly and super helpful. We got a lot of explanations and details from the staff even though we just had the general admission and no guided tour!Highly recommend this place.

Fabian W — Google review

Visited on a Thursday afternoon and it was decently crowded. My family of 3 was able to walk through the caverns in about an hour and it was spectacular. It is self-guided but you can pay for a guided tour. You are given a pamphlet with information as you walk through the caverns. Although it is definitely a tourist-y spot, I highly recommend checking this incredible place out as it is one of the great wonders of the east coast!

Brianna R — Google review

I have visited caves all around the world- Japan, Europe, Korea etc. This was by FAR the most breathtaking experience. The caverns were other-worldly. You MUST visit if you are close by! If you have kids, the caverns are pretty stroller (small stroller) friendly. Also, the crowds here aren’t bad at all, you have plenty of space to enjoy the trail.

Eleanore B — Google review

We enjoyed this very much. We stayed up at big meadows campground during a very misty week so this was a nice break. The path is all one level, no steps. The only improvement I would like is the ability to get the headphones again or a guided tour. The pamphlet was helpful but we like to interact with tour guides make sure you check for discounts

Deanna L — Google review

It was an amazing experience. It was my first time in a cavern, so it was incredible to me. The mirror caves were absolutely beautiful. It was a rainy day, so we got to see the water filtering inside the cave. The guides were very helpful. We got to hear the organ in the cathedral.

Ana C — Google review

Having heard that these were the best caverns to visit in Virginia, I was eager to see them.On arrival the place was really busy, but we had not trouble parking in the parking lot.Entry was reasonably priced and after walking through the gift shop we headed to the caverns. Before you enter you have to have your photo taken so they can try and sell it to you on your way out.The caves are amazing to look at, and there are plenty of opportunities to take photos. The caverns are well lit but I do feel that missed a trick by not using coloured lighting. My only gripe would be the crowds. Lots of people just stopping and not letting people past. This caused a back log many times.About halfway round there are only so many rock formations you can look at before they all start to look alike. The route took about 1hr. Once out you walk back through the gift shop. There are other attractions available included in the price, but we were too hot and tired to experience them.

Andy M — Google review

Really cool caverns with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites formations. There was also a very small underground lake that reflected the stalactites like a mirror. The temperature is cool (light jacket should be fine), can be slightly drippy if raining outside. Takes about 1 hr average to stroll leisurely and enjoy the view. The restroom is only available at the main building so make sure you empty your bladder before heading into the cavern. There are also other attractions in the complex such as the toy station, museum, etc. Parking was relatively easy, also free. All in all, certainly worth the ticket price.

Mario C — Google review

Luray Caverns, discovered in 1878, is the largest cavern in the eastern United States, boasting a breathtaking display of cascades, columns, stalactites, stalagmites, and pools. Its stunning beauty is highlighted by the diverse colors and unique formations found throughout.$34 for adults | $32 for seniors | $17 for children 6-12 | FREE under age 6Tickets Includes the Luray Caverns Self-Guided Tour, the Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Shenandoah Heritage Village, and Toy Town Junction.

Hushra — Google review

Went at the end of our spring break and it was really fun! It’s about 60-90 min to walk all the way through, depending on how long you stop for photos or listen to the organ. Many amazing sights and some parts of the caves are 7 million years old! Very interesting history and would recommend grabbing info pamphlet before you go through so you can follow along what each item is (they’re numbered). Tickets also include free admission to the toy museum and train/car museum next door. Really neat to see more historic items.

Lydia K — Google review

This place was really great. I checked previous pictures and had thought I would find something a bit different, for example: the wishing well; I thought it was bigger than what actually is (small) also, thought there was more water in it, but nope. I still enjoyed the place and had a great time. I went on Sunday and it was full of people, making it hard to take some pics but not a big deal either. No steps inside, it took a bit more than 1hr but did not feel it, I didn’t get tired either. I was ready to use a sweater inside but no need in my case. Restrooms are 8/10. Whenever you enter or exit you have to go through the shop they have, I didn’t like it because it was crowded inside the shop. Staff was friendly. Entry was 32USD per person.

Elena N — Google review

Beautiful. Pictures can not do it justice. My girlfriend and I made a detour on our trip home from PA to NC to see this place. We were amazed. I have hundreds of pictures/videos and they all look amazing. Put it on your bucket list. Must see.

Joshua C — Google review

We had the best time here. I took my father and my grandson (who is 4) and my dad loved the ramp that was added from the last time he was here many years ago and my grandson practically skipped the entire time being in awe of everything to see.We lucked out and didn't realize the anniversary of the caverns being discovered was the same weekend we chose to go and they had lit hundreds of candles which only added to the ambiance. It was also nice and cool given the 90+ it was outside.

A T — Google review

Amazing experience, very beautiful cave and rock formations. The tours are self guided. However when your walking through, their will be families stopping and taking pictures, which holds up others that want to go bye. My experience there was an allot of kids running around, which annoyed others. But didn’t annoy me. I had a great time. Would definitely go back.

Morii — Google review

the caverns were amazing to see, easy to walk, we were there when they first opened mid weekday in winter and it was not crowded. It took about an hour and half total with a leisurely stroll. Kids really enjoyed seeing the different formations. There is a very large parking lot and was mostly empty when we went. By the time we got done the lot was about1/4 full.

James H — Google review

Absolutely beautiful!! We really enjoyed the self guided tour. It's definitely worth the trip!! We visited from Michigan over New Years weekend. It wasn't terribly busy. We spent a few hours there between the caves, village, and museums. The ticket price is worth it for sure. You get to see and learn a lot. Our only issue was with people themselves. For some reason, people just can't seem to listen and follow rules, especially in the caves. It was sad to see so many people being disrespectful and touching the formations :(

Ashley B — Google review

Great way to easily experience the caverns! The self-guided tour is great, it allows you to stop and enjoy the quiet and beauty of each area. There are useful details about the formations in a guide pamphlet which is super helpful to understand everything. Added on the maze to the experience, it was so fun and worth the extra price. The whole experience was a lot of fun for all ages.

Elizabeth H — Google review

Cool place to walk around if you enjoy caves. Did have an experience with one of the workers as we walked up on a private tour and we weren’t aware of it and just stood there being polite letting him finish talking only for him to rudely say anyone not part of the tour move along. I just think there was a better way to say it as we had no clue that’s what it was.

Victoria — Google review

Stunning- Nature’s magic at play. Great for families, kids or even a romantic get away. Lots to do other than just the Caverns. Plan ahead if you want to explore more than just the caverns and do other things like the Garden Maze , shopping etc.Definately bring your camera. The caves have a beautiful ‘Mirror lake’. Magical!!!

Muhnoo J — Google review

Decided to head out to the caverns with the family. We have been to several caverns all over the world and this one was really good. The tour was good, the path was wheelchair friendly, the formations were amazing. The cavern organ performances were a bit of a let down. The car museum was okay but it was included in the price of the ticket. The biggest shock was the price at $34 a person. This is quite expensive. The cavern tour took us about 2 hours. There was plenty of parking.

Johnathon E — Google review

Worth driving additional 92 miles if you are visiting DC area. This place is one of its kind. Can take about 2 hour to cover with self guided tour. It has clean pathways. You can click amazing picture of stone formation. It has free partaking and outdoor activities for family is good add-on. On weekend they charge around $34 for adult and $17 for kids entry. No charge for kids below 6 years.

Arif S — Google review

What an experience! This place is truly out of this world. The tickets included the Luray Caverns Self-Guided Tour, the Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Shenandoah Heritage Village, and Toy Town Junction. There's also garden maze, rope adventure park and gem sluice for additional price.I wish we had more time to explore, so we hope to be back soon.

I was here in 2019 and now in 2024. I'm very excited. This is the best place. It’s safe to walk here and not be afraid that you will slip and fall, like in another cave that we were not far from this one. There is a very large cave here and there is something to see all the time. I regretted that we went to another cave because this cave is the best, the most beautiful, the most. I really liked it, thank you to the people who work there for your work. It's so good here that you don't want to leave. Photos can't convey how beautiful it is there.

Marina K — Google review

It's a very nice vacation destination to see the beauty of another side of the world. Luray caverns is very good experience, and nice to see the under earth beauty. The mirror image beauty is awesome. Nice maintenance inside caverns. Enjoyed the trip and Skyline drive as well.

Manikandan N — Google review

Gods creation is always a beauty to see and this a prime example. The mountain ranges in the distance. The beautifully eroded caverns. The facility that runs the place is very well put together. Any wheelchair or stroller is very accessible. Definitely a place to visit. Go and see!

It was my revisit after 28 years. Back then it was not as nice as now. Cavern was renovated during 2017 ~ 2019 and it looks much nicer and corridor was nicely renovated. My kids loved the cavern and it is must visit place when you have kids. It takes little less than 1 and half hours to complete the tour and loved it. Ticket price is $34 for adult and $17 for kids(6-12), Free for under age 6

My husband and I went for the car museum. We ended up going to all of the museums there. We did not visit the caves because my husband has gone before and we had our 2 year old with us. The temperature was 70 and clear. We got there really early before the crowd. We loved the car and toy museums.

co*cktail bar

Nestled in the Shenandoah mountains, Copper Fox Distillery offers a unique experience for whiskey enthusiasts. The distillery's smoky applewood-aged whiskey is a standout feature, and visitors can enjoy tours and tastings of their premium flights. The rustic space pays homage to the building's roots, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the outdoor co*cktail garden by the river provides a relaxing setting to savor their exceptional spirits.

Had gone for what seemed like a never ending hike before coming here and all we wanted to do was sit and have a co*cktail- it didn’t disappoint. They have tables outside right along a creek/river/stream/babbling brook- I could have sat there all day. It was so peaceful. The co*cktails were strong and delicious. We’re in the area for a few more days and we’ll definitely return for another drink.

Excellent visit here. Very friendly staff. We enjoyed the tour and had 2 flights after the tour. The back story is really cool- motel turned distillery! The whiskeys we sampled were very solid. The tour was well done and had a good flow to it. One thing: our tour guide used a couple of 4 letter words on the tour. We prefer keeping it professional but that’s just us. We’d recommend a visit here and will definitely be back.

What a great experience. We were greeted at the door and explained about the distillery. The shop was nice. We went outside to enjoy a drink and discovered a relaxing river view. Steve the cat joined us and kept us company. We were very impressed and will be back.

I spent a week in the Shenandoah mountains alone, a true getaway. While exploring the valley to see what there was to experience, I came across this place and decided I had to check it out. I have rarely made a better decision. The whisky was phenomenal top to bottom, I tried both the regular flight and premium flight and was disappointed with none of it. The staff was warm and welcoming, service was excellent, and the setting… the setting was unbeatable. The riverside bar was everything I needed. Prices are excellent, quality is absurd, and I can’t recommend this highly enough. I’m now on a quest to get the state of Alabama to try to bring this into distribution so I can buy it at my local liquor store instead of driving 950 miles! Do yourself a favor, try Copper Fox… You gotta do it!

What a wonderful find! We were heading back home from a weekend adventure and happened upon this distillery during the Sperryville Festival we spotted as we were passing by. Our drinks were superb and the atmosphere so relaxing! Thanks Rick for your hospitality. I recommend you stop in if you enjoy unique beverages, good people, and comfortable atmosphere.

Older W — Google review

Some of the best whiskey I have tried in one of the most serene locations. The staff at the distillery were friendly and knowledgable. I tried the premium flight to experience their more interesting products. The port style rye may be one of my favorite whiskeys to date. We sat out back next to a trickling stream that made for a fantastically peaceful experience.

Tim F — Google review

This is a must stop place to see and try if you are into distillery/tastings. I got the flight and pirate lemonade. Everyone was nice and the atmosphere was just perfect. If I had to be nit picky, I would add a bug attractor away from the guest area to deter the disturbances of bugs. All in all, will definitely return!

Kong — Google review

We all had a great time, you should definitely make this a stop if you are in the area. Good drinks, service and the price is totally acceptable.

Christopher L — Google review

Even though it was just myself, I had a great time trying the different whiskeys Copper Fox provided. They had a wide variety of flavor profiles. So I’m sure visitors will find something they enjoy. I enjoyed the Chestnut American and bought a bottle while I was there. I also bought an Age Your Own Whiskey kit that I can’t wait to do. The atmosphere was great and will be more enjoyable with friends and family.

Copper Fox Distillery was a very cool find! My boyfriend and I enjoyed delicious co*cktails during sunset after hiking Old Rag. We were the only ones there and enjoyed sitting by the river watching the cat roam around. The inside had some of the most interesting decor too. Their Old Fashion was one of the best I’ve ever had! I highly recommend!

Nina M — Google review

A delightful, unassuming location. When you pull up, you might think your GPS took you to the wrong location, because you will be surrounded by old warehouses. Rest assured, you're in the right spot! Follow the sign to the distillery, and head in the main doors to be greeted in a rustic space that pays homage to the building's roots. If it's a nice day, head out back for a nice surprise - a co*cktail garden alongside the river! The menu is loaded with tasty co*cktail options for you to enjoy, as well as a couple spirit flights. I'd personally recommend the premium flight because it contains some of the best local whiskey expressions I've had. While you're in the garden, you may be joined by one of the distillery's cats, which can provide extra entertainment if they're in a hunting mood.

Went on a tour last Sunday at Williamsburg location and had such a nice time. Gabriel was such a good tour guide and has a great sense of humor. We truly enjoyed learning about the Whisky making process and touring the distillery. Such a great date! Seeing the process and smelling the aromas of freshly distilled spirits was quite nice. Ending up our tour with a stop in the bar and enjoying a flight of the Whisky and one of the best Whisky sours that I have ever had. We truly had a great time!

Waynett W — Google review

We stopped in for a mid-week tour and tasting and were not at all disappointed! Sean was a delight to spend time with as he talked and walked us through the story of Copper Fox, as well as the processes they employ for making their incredible whiskies. We also met Rick and he was such a kind and generous host. We enjoyed some flight tastings out back overlooking the flowing stream on a lovely day. Time well spent! We will be back.

Caleb N — Google review

Visited the distillery in Sperryville. Really cool place to relax and get a whisky flight or co*cktail. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and super chill. Loved the inside decor- comfortable and welcoming. They have some games and cards you could use and a nice place outside to sit. It was very cold when we visited so we opted to stay inside. We both liked the whiskey flights. My fav was the Copper Fox original Rye. II would have loved to try a co*cktail too but was driving. Give 'em a try if you are in the area!

Sue F — Google review

Nice little surprise along our drive today! This distillery had a nice co*cktail list, beautiful view out their back door with a babbling brook, and the atmosphere inside was also very inviting. The four of us enjoyed a couple hot totties and old fashions. These were the best drinks of our whole vacation. If you have the opportunity make a stop at Copper Fox, you won’t be disappointed.

Rebekah C — Google review

Wide array of flavors to taste from. Enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly staff. Rye and XO were my favorites.Did bother the standard and premium spirt tastings.

Andrew S — Google review

We discovered an absolute hidden gem here! Despite arriving just an hour before closing, the manager (whose name escapes me) delivered exceptional service. He led us on a delightful tour, enlightening us about the whiskey-making process. I can't wait to return with friends and family to share this cozy and inviting atmosphere. Many thanks for a truly wonderful experience!

Little Washington Winery and Brewery is a charming venue located in Little Washington, VA. The winery offers a polished guesthouse with refined quarters, a bar, and three fireplaces, as well as a porch with stunning mountain views. It's also an ideal location for weddings due to its gorgeous scenery and intimate feel. The winery sits on a hill, providing an amphitheater-style seating for wedding ceremonies with an absolutely spectacular view.

The Little Washington wine flight was amazing, a very well-rounded experience with a palette for all. Location was a bit hidden, but once there the view was amazing… not to mention the actual estate interior which you can explore fully and sit wherever you want! Perfect relaxing place.

Nick M — Google review

We stopped here after a hike and it was the perfect spot. The wine selection is great, my wife was pleasantly surprised at the house wine and there were plenty of local beer options. Friendly and welcoming service. Highly recommend!

Nicholas S — Google review

Beautiful backdrop and plenty of land at this winery. The vibe here is very "chill". The owner engages with customers and the manager at the winery is super friendly, too. My absolute favorite wine here is the "George Meritage Reserve" which is a Bordeaux style red. This wine is absolutely outstanding! The winery often has entertainment, and we were lucky to listen to a local artist, Kiaya who is also outstanding. Highly recommend the location, the people and the wine!

John B — Google review

There is the most fantastic view from the front porch. I will be back when it’s warmer to enjoy it! The home is decorated beautifully too and the staff is very friendly! FYI it’s no longer a B&B

Eileen S — Google review

I can't speak on the rooms of the place as we didnt stay here but have been here twice for wine classes. First one we did was the Italian wine one which was awesome. There was a chatty table of older adults who wouldn't stop talking which was quite obnoxious but the class itself was great. Tried 10 different wines all which had explanations for each. We just went back yesterday for the boot camp and I personally thought that class was better. Very informative about how wines are made, pairings of both food and chocolates. The owner taught the classes and he is honestly the main reason they are as enjoyable as they are. We will be coming back for more classes for sure. Do yourself a favor and also take one!

What a charming venue for a wedding! We had the pleasure to photograph a marriage celebration at Little Washington Winery and would enthusiastically recommend it to any couple who wants a wedding with gorgeous scenery, an intimate feel and lots of great wine! Because it's set on a hill, the winery offers an absolutely spectacular view. The hill itself creates something of a bowl as it runs down from the main building, which allows you to do a wedding ceremony with amphitheater-style seating. The staff are super-friendly and very knowledgeable about the wines, which not surprisingly, are great for a post-wedding celebration!

Anji P — Google review

We were very disappointed in our visit to the Little Washington winery. The person behind the bar was either having a really bad day or was so really unhappy about something. She wasn't friendly or helpful at all. Maybe they were really shorthanded because of the July 4th weekend? Whatever the reason it was a very unfortunate experience. We ordered 2 flights of wine. We tried them and left wishing we had not make the 30 mile drive to this winery.

Brian C — Google review

Wow. What a nice experience. The wine and the tasting experience at this winery is excellent. Carl did a great job of helping us understand what we we were drinking. Beautiful home that hosts the tastings. Don’t miss this one.

Philip Carter Winery is a lovely family-owned and operated historic winery that offers four and six wine flights for tasting. The wine server provides an excellent experience, even offering a sample of their port-style wine. Visitors appreciate the easy-to-carry plastic flights and the option to pour samples into glasses. The winery's dedication to making the best of each year's crop is commendable, and visitors express a desire to see unique hybrid grape strains in the future.

Beautiful winery! Wines and ciders are delicious! Very friendly, capable and accommodating staff. They have live music and fun events like virtical wine tasting, and barrel tastings. We have introduced many friends to Phillip Carter and are always so proud to bring them as we know their wines and cider are the best and they will have a wonderful time!

We took the wine & picnic tour. We had the best time. Jan was phenomenal. She was knowledgeable, intelligent, and very fun. They have a nice gift shop, all very affordable. Very clean and inviting. The entire staff was helpful and heart-warming. There are so many wine options, but the staff will gladly help you choose based on your liking. We were able to purchase glasses of wine before the tour. The tour does take you outside, so I advise appropriate attire. The tour is interesting and insightful. We ended inside for our tasting. We were able to taste many wines (Which individually were described upon our sheets.) We laughed and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Would recommend to anyone and hope to return. *We were also given complimentary glasses to take home. They also bagged our picnic leftovers. Just great service. Thank you!

Lindy E — Google review

This place is great! Wonderful atmosphere, great wine and even had some ciders and sangria! There was live music in the tasting room (which was beautiful by the way). I think the best part was our interaction with the staff. Jan was so hospitable and great to talk to, really made our night! Highly recommended if in the area!

Joshua B — Google review

Start with positives. Beautiful property, lots of seating outside.Negatives: wine is expensive for what it is, we tried three and can't say we loved any. The sangria was just terrible, mostly sprite or whatever soda. They were understaffed at the time, and they are doing small plastic cups for tasting, which is a lot of plastic waste plus you can't smell or really taste the wine, so we decided against tasting.

Natalie K — Google review

Lovely family owned and operated historic winery. I probably dived in deeper into the operations than most patrons, but highly recommend. I love to see ‘mom & pop’ places succeed.I’m not saying every years crop is perfect, but like every vineyard, they do the best with what they’re given.I’d love to see unique hybrid grape strains! If PC Winery is interested, I know a person. 😉

For my birthday I was gifted a Groupon for a winery tour and tasting. Absolutely delicious. All of the staff were friendly, the wine was delicious and the views breath taking. 10/10 recommend

Amanda C — Google review

Nice location not far off I-66 with vineyards and mountains as backdrops. They were having an event when we went so you could taste wine, beer and cider and they had a good BBQ food vendor. We enjoyed sitting on the porch enjoying the afternoon breeze. The peach float was very interesting but that may be just a seasonal/event offering. Worth a visit.

William P — Google review

Beautiful place but tours are not as advertised. The “private wine education tour” we paid for was $110 for 2 people and said it was a private tour, but we were on a group tour that according to the website was $60 for 2 people. So we paid $50 more than we needed to. The picnic was nice but did not include the Virginia chutney and chocolates, and we did not receive the complimentary cork screw and tasting glasses. We also paid an additional $50 for two glasses of wine, since a glass is included in the tour. Overall a beautiful spot and nice place but would not recommend paying for the private tour.

Kelly B — Google review

We were gifted a picnic and tour at this winery and cannot speak more highly of it. The views are incredible, the picnic was delicious, and the staff were so knowledgeable. We bought a bottle and can’t wait til we come back to try more wines! Wonderful winery.

Naomi L — Google review

What the what? When I first started going to wineries in VA many moons ago, this was one of the places. Recently while being there, the place feels really run down. The men's bathroom was destroyed. Seriously, it felt like the bathroom from Dan's Cafe in Adams Morgan, not a winery.Another disappointing part was how they're serving now. Your tasting comes in the little round plastic cups with tops that are used for salad dressing cups at Whole Foods. I get the one use during this era, but most of the wineries are using glass - and simply washing. That all said, the wines were decent. Perhaps this was an off Saturday.Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz

Joseph R — Google review

We selected a four wine and six wine flight for our tasting so we could sample most of their options. The wine server did an excellent job and even gave us a sample of their port-style which was a wine we discussed, but ran out of slots. I like their flights being in easy to carry plastic, but we also got a glass to pour each sample into so that the taste was not impacted. Very good wines, worth a visit!

The State Arboretum of Virginia has an evil past like many historic sites in Virginia, where America's first enslaved Africans entered. The land was once a plantation that enslaved people before it was willed to the University of Virginia to train students in farming. In the 1980s, it was opened to the public as an arboretum. As you enter the area, you walk through what were likely the slave quarters. Here's what we can do as we visits sites like this with an evil past:-Acknowledge and grieve the evil inflicted on humans by humans-Ask the site to prominently display the history and its impact today so it's not ignored or belittled-Donate to organizations like The Conscious Kid as "admission"Doing all of the above, here's my experience visiting the State Arboretum of Virginia in December 2021:1) Space: The arboretum is large with a network of trails that weave through forests (including a bamboo forest), gardens, marshland and historic buildings. There are a few lookout areas with binocular stations to see birds and wildlife.2) Amenities: There's free parking in a lot and admission is free. There are public restrooms open every day and benches throughout the space. Leashed dogs are welcome. They host a number of events, including seed exchanged. They have a Little Free Library by the parking lot.If you go in the morning, drive 16 miles north to Jordan Springs Market, an award-winning, woman-owned BBQ spot inside a gas station market.

*This* stop was truly worth the time. A terrific effort has been made to provide an ecological gem thriving as it does here. I was impressed by the sheer expanse of the property, the careful attention given to the pathways, and the variety of flora. Give yourself plenty of time to casually experience the area and to listen to the sounds of nature.

Beautiful park with many amenities. It's lovely to see the different types of trees from Lebanon trees to the ginkgo. You can try to come in fall to see the ginkgo leaves change color. Staff are knowledgeable and there are restrooms in the quarter section.

I can't say enough good things about this place! The collection of Evergreen trees and their pamphlet for a self guided tour were FANTASTIC, a highlight of my vacation. I also enjoyed the herb garden and driving the loop with marked trees and there are other educational sites along it.Horseback riding is allowed and they have an area set up for corralling them, their trucks trailers all have their own designated area.

Although almost 80% of the ginkgo leaves had fallen off when we were there, it’s still beautiful and worth exploring around. Its website updates information frequently and you can check as a reference before you go.

Cool place to visit for fall leaf viewing. The Ginko Grove is amazing with sun shining through the canopy. The scenery is fantastic around the grounds, great for photography. The Ginko Grove is about a 10 minute walk, there is nearby parking only for those with limited mobility. Recommend stopping off at Nall's Farm store not far from here for pies, apple cider doughnuts, and great produce or snacks to bring for a picnic.

BRANDON S — Google review

A great place to relax, read, learn, or photograph! Come see some hard to see in a lifetime plants and trees!

Matt Y — Google review

Beautiful place out in the country. I almost gave it only 4 stars because it wasn't bigger! It is wide open and beautiful, but if you have young children, watch out for the cacti covering some of the large rock outcroppings.

Amanda J — Google review

Amazingly nice gardens; many plants and trees are labeled which is so helpful. The attendant let me into the meeting room (full of nice framed photos of flowers). Nicest public bathrooms I have experienced (look up at the arched window). I spent a couple hours walking around and listening to the free self-guided audio tour found on their website. Nearby is the Burwell-Morgan Mill that stone-grinds various grains on weekends, and across from it is the Locke Store with nice picnic fixin's.

Beautiful and peaceful plaçe. Lots of trails, wetlands, observation structure, and amazing trees and flowers most of the year. Beautiful in all seasons and always something new to see!

David S — Google review

Dogs allowed! A wonderful piece of property being maintained by UVA. Really gives a good snapshot of many biomes in the local area. Come here to receive a "sense of place". An exceptional pavillion overlooks the wetlands and I would recommend it being a far point to reach on your visit. The weathered limestone formations found throughout are something to see. Contemplate their lines.

Matthew M — Google review

I have visited here probably 4 times in the past 2 decades, and I feel like I always found an area that I missed during my previous visits. The parking was a bit full when I arrived because there was a wedding party there. I parked next to the herb garden in the grassy parking area. The garden is very spacious, and I like the pollination garden the best, and the arboretum has so many different types of trees, and plants. I was surprised to see so much flowers considering Spring is when most flowers bloom. The meadows was pretty to walk around and the grass was cut short for ease of walking. This park is also dogfriendly. I saw so many puppies there! It was great to see dog lovers taking their dogs places instead of keeping them at home. There is an audio trail and a drive too.

Tunnel

Sights & Landmarks

The Paw Paw Tunnel is a canal tunnel located in Western Maryland that was opened in 1850. The tunnel features a long towpath trail and brass plates that explain its history, making it an excellent location for those interested in the history of the C&O canal. Currently, there is construction going on at the site, but visitors are still able to go through the tunnel with caution as it is boarded up except for one small opening.

Great trail! Very flat so good for biking, not as much for hiking more of a walk. The tunnel is really neat but super dark in the middle. Bit spooky if alone. Dog friendly!

Kelsey — Google review

This was a very cool hiking trail that led you straight down to the tunnel. The tunnel is pretty chilly and super dark. Make sure that you have flash lights, especially if you have children. The path is pretty steep but a nice short walk.

Josh B — Google review

My son has been working on a Maryland history project where he has to take pictures of himself at multiple historical sites in Maryland. We were in Western Maryland and stopped at the tunnel. There is a significant amount of construction going on there right now. There is a detour near the Towpath but you can go through the tunnel. The tunnel is boarded up except for one small opening for a door. Make sure you bring a flashlight because it is especially dark with the openings being boarded. This is a great site for the history of the C&O canal. Take some time to look at the significance of it before you arrive

Matt R — Google review

We did a short hike here during the weekday. The site is under construction, but we were able to park easily and walk up to the tunnel. Because of the construction we had to turn back at the end of the tunnel. A few notes to expect: Inside the tunnel is 15 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. Once inside the tunnel it gets dark. We were the only ones there as it was a weekday and we had to use our phone flashlight to see. We then hiked around the area and there are some stunning views of the river if you go up and around the tunnel. Overall, fun place to check out.

Michael P — Google review

Really cool to walk through. The hike is great exercise too. I recommend bringing a headlamp or flashlight, although your phone light is enough just to walk through.

Brandy B — Google review

Fun family activity. My recommendation is to park in the lot designated for the tunnel and not go to the area up the mountain where you can hike down. If you park in the lot by the canal, it is an easy walk to the tunnel. As a family, we choose to walk through without any light assistance so the kids could experience the total darkness. They loved it! On the way back some other groups had flashlights and were shining them directly in our faces, so just to be aware of that if you do take a flashlight and come upon others. It is out of the way, and a neat experience that we are all going to remember for a long time.

EJ B — Google review

Waze takes you past it and up to a farm that is private land you will see a sign off on the main road and it's a little hidden turn. Also the area is under construction so a lot of the trails were blocked off.

Jrow S — Google review

Easy parking lot and hike to the tunnel. It does drip at the entrance so wear a hat to avoid getting wet (I dislike the feeling). It's pretty safe for older kids and adults but the railing wouldn't contain a small kid from falling it. Lots of people on bikes as well and there is a detour to get all the way around since one end is currently closed for repairs.

Elisa F — Google review

Park at the Paw Paw Campground and it's a half mile gravel path. Maps might take you another way, road may not be suitable for RVs, but this road takes you above the tunnel. You can hike to the top at the trail beside the tunnel, 2 miles up hill, and 2 miles down (nope!) Tunnel Temps felt great during an 80 degree day. Bring a flashlight. Picnic table and Porta potty too.

Teresa W — Google review

Rainy day, so we decided not to spend too much time here, but the place reeks of history and striving to build with technology that would be considered primitive in today's times. On a previous visit, my son and I, and another father son pair walked through the tunnel. Recommend it!

Jeff P — Google review

This is the first time in three years we visited that the tunnel was open for walkers. Great walk with the family, kids love walking through the tunnel with the flashlights. The front opening was closed, I believe because of construction, but we were still allowed to walkthrough.Bring flashlights, suggest flashlight per person

John E — Google review

Parts of the area are under construction but they have kept the tunnel open. It looks much shorter than it actually is when you enter. At one point, we thought we were half way through when in actuality, we were only about quarter of the way. It stays cool inside, so it is great for a hot Summer afternoon.

Derrick B — Google review

Easy walk to a super cool place. The end of the tunnel is beautiful! There were also little newts in the water. Absolutely recommend stopping

Kaitlyn R — Google review

I walked along the Hill Trail and did not go through the tunnel since it looked like construction was going on. The Hill Trail has some beautiful views! I decided to take first left onto the Hill Trail...fyi...that is one sketchy sinking bridge! And my feet got a little wet. 😂

Kylena C — Google review

We can imagine the history of ancient boat travel on this ancient canal, and more importantly, the builder of this canal. They use their hand to dig the tunnel, to dig the canal river, and which convenient for boat to travel. Be respectful.

Hanhua G — Google review

Definitely worth the visit. Hard to believe that this was built back in the mid 1800s. Over 3,000 feet long through solid rock. Easy walk. Bring a good flashlight you'll need it. Tunnel entrance on one end under construction due to past rock slide. Supposedly will be finished by the fall of 2023

Mark S — Google review

I was under the impression that the tunnel was closed and was pleasantly surprised to discover yesterday that it is now open. We walked the length of the tunnel. The path has been restored, the railing is stable and we were able to enjoy a worry free walk in a pretty dark space.

Rocking S Ranch is the best horseback riding I've ever been to! I've been to multiple horseback riding trails throughout the Virginia region and Bill at the Rocking S Ranch make your experience the absolute best!My wife and I was visiting Hillbrook Inn to celebrate our 1st year Anniversary and I saw "Rocking S Ranch" as a good activity for us. I called to asked a few questions before our trip and Bill was absolutely friendly! I could hear his excitement and friendliness through the phone. Once we got our reservation all set up and finally met him at the ranch, it felt like I was meeting up with a friend by how welcoming and friendly Bill was. My wife, who hadn't ridden a horse before, instantly felt comfortable and was ready to get on a horse because of how welcoming BIll and his nephew Jr was.We got to ride Leroy and Timber. Two beautiful horses. We followed behind Bill as he told us local stories, funny jokes, and asked us about ourselves. It felt like we were all friends just going out for a nice horse ride. We felt like we lived here and we were neighbors! The scenic route we took was amazing and Bill did a great job at taking amazing photos of us with our phones.I've made this longer than it needed to be, but we absolutely loved it!

We had a great time at Rocking S Ranch! Bill was a great guide and was full of jokes along the way! The horses were super sweet and trails were really nice! Beautiful area to go riding through, we will definitely go back again!

One year ago from today my mom took me and my brother here. Little did I know this would be one of the worst days of my life. When arriving there ON TIME bill asked us if we could wait an hour because he had to go somewhere, which is 100% reasonable so we came back an hour later. He got the horses ready and after getting my mom and brother on their horses i was next. I was riding his horse LEEROY. I wasn’t even on this horse yet when he started acting funny (first red flag). After getting on Leeroy I noticed he wasn’t listening as-well as the other horses but I just ignored it I’ve never really rode a horse before so this was basically new to me. We start the trail and it was a good ride for a little until I realized Leeroy was walking ahead of the other horses and a lot faster. Bill even said he was off and I quote “he’s usually the slow one I don’t know what’s wrong with him. “ we continue on with the rail going through a river and going up mountains and on the road. Bill spoke up and said “I haven’t lost a person yet” jokingly. We were about to finish the ride about 5 minutes away from his house when we were crossing the road when Leeroy takes off charging in front of all the other horses. I was behind my mom and brother and also bill. Bill yelled for me to pull the rope back to calm Leeroy, that didn’t work. All I was thinking was “he’s gonna throw me off” and that’s exactly what happen. I landed straight on my back in the gravel. Leeroy backs away from me and I tried to stand up but could not I fell straight down. Bill yells “what did you do to him” as if I wasn’t on the grown is agonizing pain. My mom jumps off her horse and runs over to me. Bill told her to leave me on the side of the road BY MYSELF so she could put her horse back, she refused and stayed with me while my brother went back to get her car. My mom called 911 and we waited for the ambulance to get there. I can’t remember a lot after because I was in complete shock and I couldn’t move. Bill still made my mom pay for all of us…. Absolutely absurd. To this day I still struggle with my accident. I have muscle spasms (my whole body with shake uncontrollably) almost daily I’m light headed all the time, I cannot bend my back that much I just feel broken somedays. I’ve been to hospital after hospitals trying to get myself straight but all they can tell me is there’s nothing they can do and I’ll probably have these twitches for the rest of my life. I posted this not to hate but for everyone to be aware of what can happen. All the comments of people saying this is safe and fun and an EASY ride. Just please be cautious and if you have an bad feeling listen to your gut it could save your life.

Cacapon Resort State Park is a picturesque destination offering a variety of activities for all ages. The park features hiking trails, a swimming lake, and a golf course, as well as nature programs led by knowledgeable naturalists. Visitors can stay in the lodge or cozy cabins equipped with modern amenities and surrounded by stunning views. The on-site restaurant serves delicious breakfasts and pizzas, while outdoor cooking facilities are also available near the beach.

From the moment we arrived we were treated with the utmost care, everyone on property is polite, smiling and engaging. The grounds and the facility are gorgeous, well thought out and lovely. The two plus days we were here all the staff members we came across not only remembered us but always treated us like close friends. Five stars all around

Went to a wedding at the gazebo near the Nature Center. The location was wonderful. So much to do and not enough time! Stayed at The Old Inn with 6 families and we loved it! So much room. Very comfortable rooms, good air conditioning, great kitchen and many spaces indoors and outside for gathering. Highly recommend!

Karen A — Google review

My husband and I stayed one night at the lodge for his birthday last week and it was a wonderful experience with a great price point! Our room was exactly what we needed! It was on the older side but we couldn’t tell! The whole lodge was extremely clean and the staff were friendly! The front desk lady gave us prefect directions to the overlook at the top of the mountain and we went exploring! There was also a beautiful waterfall in the beginning of the park. It was a great time and we will definitely be back!

Great Great State Park with so much to do!! The new construction just made it even better. Friendly staff, wonderful lakes, golf course, horseback riding , and hiking trails. Love the new restaurant, very helpful and pleasant staff. All around great place to go!!

I could've spent a few days here, such a beautiful place. The view from the top was breathtaking and worth the bumpy ride up there. The beach area, the benches, fishing spots, and picnic tables around the water we're perfect. They have horseback riding, clay shooting, lots of trails, and a beautiful lodge. Highly recommend.

Rachel B — Google review

It is a beautiful park with a newly built lodge. Highly recommend driving up to the Cacapon Mountain overlook. It's rough...mostly on gravel road, but worth the drive! Breathtakingly beautiful! We loved the Ridge Trail, too.

I have to say that this was a very enjoyable weekend getaway for my wife and I. We booked a lodge room, it was.in the older part but was very nicely kept and comfortable, albeit a bit small and lacking a microwave. The staff and the service we received here was definitely top notch, the restaurant was great and the food was very good. The legacy lounge was a nice place to stop for a drink, and had some good drink specials. The outdoor seating area and outdoor fireplace were nice, but the weather didn't cooperate on our second day. The only disappointing part was the game room, literally nothing worked, but the space it occupied was very nice and the entire resort was very clean.

Jeffrey C — Google review

Rooms were nice, view of the mountain also nice. Staff friendly. Do not use the restaurant! I’m sure not everyone will have the same experience as we did but and to make a long story short we ended up walking out on our restaurant bill. We waited to talk to the manager but even that was a hassle. We finally went to the manager of the hotel and told him what had happened. He was very helpful and took care of everything.

We have really fell in love this park!! We stay in the cabins when we go and they are newly renovated and very nice. On top of that, the lodge is huge and newly renovated as well! There is a ton to do including hiking, beach, playgrounds, a bunch of different mountain biking trails, indoor pool, nature center, tons of activities planned everyday, and an amazing overlook where you can see 4 states!

Gage E — Google review

Went with a group of family members, and we all absolutely loved it! We had 3 rooms at the lodge (2 in south & 1 in north lodge), all were very clean with great views! Did a lot of hiking! Our favorite trail was the Ziler trail, took some stamina! Cooked out near the beach. Hiked up to the fishing lake (which is beautiful) every morning. We had great reception even while hiking (gps came in handy when we got off course!) The restaurant has really great breakfasts, and we liked the pizza too! And, of course enjoyed roasting marshmallows around the campfire in the evening! We will definitely be back!!

STACY H — Google review

The park grounds are great as one would expect for a large state park. The new lodge is nice although overpriced for what it is. We were here for a NICA race so we camped. We rode a bunch of the trails the day before they setup the race course and a few of the trails are great rides. The skills park was very nice. We did drive up to the top of the mountain and highly recommend if you go. The road up however is rough to say the least. If you are in a car with little ground clearance you may want to not make the trip up. We camped in the parking lot for the swimming lake that is open for swimming through the summer. The few downsides I will mention is that the swimming bath house that was opened for all of us that camped was pretty filthy with very little working lights. With all the money they have spent at the lodge they should have spent some of it improving the bath houses around the park. Don't let that discourage you though since I don't think they allow overnight camping here normally anyway. We will be back next year for the next race and will still camp here but will be prepared for it better.

Lovely resort in West Virginia. A range of nice old cabins and a modern facility to pick from. Great hiking trails to interact with nature.

It's kid friendly, clean and the staffs are super friendly and professional. Nice local place to stay over night with kids. My kids loved the pool and the hot tub and it's open till 10! Very good price point. Will definitely be back soon :)

Chung M — Google review

We stayed in one of the cabins - it was excellent! The indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit were fantastic! The beds were comfortable and the cabins were warm. The cabin kitchens were well equipped for a weekend of cooking meals for a group of people. We enjoyed a long hike as well as a few short strolls through the park. The pool was delightfully warm even though the hot tub was closed during our stay.We were concerned about a worker at the pool who seemed to poke his head into the ladies restroom and locker room before knocking several times while we were there. It seemed like he was trying to peep on women who were changing. (Minus 1 star)

My family and I vacationed in Cacapon Resort and State Park and had such a great time. We stayed in a cabin not too far from the lodge. It had four rooms consisting of two rooms with queen sized beds and two rooms with two twin beds, making it a comfortable stay. Our cabin also had a kitchen, bathroom, large living room, a fire pit, grill, and two picnic tables. There were so many great activities happening around the park for ALL ages. We took advantage of nature walks, the Irish road bowling (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!), geocaching, paddle boating, and more. Dale was our guide for most activities and he was fantastic! Very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We came here with two small children and had so much fun! If I had to have one complaint is that the food in the lounge isn't very good. You'll have more fun bringing and cooking your own in your cabin or on a campfire!

Ashlina C — Google review

Some nice hiking trails near the lodge. View of the lake are pretty. The forest has a lot of moss and rocks making it unique in a West Virginia sort of way. Food at the lodge was OK; but the fact the bar closed at 9pm ruined everything

We had such a lovely weekend at the resort. The restaurant was excellent, the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. We enjoyed a few hikes, horseback riding, the hot tub, and just generally relaxing. The spa books ahead, so call a few weeks before your visit if you want spa services. All of the staff was helpful and friendly. We plan to go back soon with our whole family.

We really enjoyed this park and the experience. The cabin we rented from the park was clean and very well furnished (table, chairs, beds, stove, refrigerator, microwave) for our use. The woods were beautiful. For me, the trails were a bit difficult but not unexpected in the hilly territory.

Sean G — Google review

Rented the old headquarters building for a retreat. Not perfect, but very nice. The park itself is awesome, esp. for mountain biking and hiking.

Carl S — Google review

We were here for a bike race. Stayed at a small cabin. It was perfect for our family of 4. Small, but all the amenities we needed for the weekend. There is a loft, but the beds are VERY small. Would work for a child, but I would have felt more comfortable if the ladder going up there had hand holds.

Wineries & Vineyards

Greenhill Winery & Vineyards is an expansive property spanning 128 acres, boasting a charming and rural atmosphere complete with natural ponds, a river, and an antique Club House dating back to 1762. The winery offers delicious wines produced exclusively from Virginia-grown grapes such as the classic Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Meritage blends. Visitors can also relish in their savory Charolais beef and honey harvested from their own apiaries.

Great wines, service is (mostly) knowledgeable. Not overpriced, their Bordeaux-style offerings compete favorably with the best (overpriced) blends of Napa. Techie, too. New egg fermentation barrels.

My husband and I have been wine club members since 2019-before the pandemic- and continued to support this business even when we were not able to visit. Today I was invited as an impromptu guest to a birthday party and decided to join separately from the initial group that was doing a wine tour that included Greenhill. My husband and I drove separately. Once we arrived, we were turned away because we were 10 people. I offered to the not-so-gentleman to allow the people in the group (group of 8) to go on without my husband and I and we could go up to the members area instead so that the group could still enjoy the wine there. But were told since the very first person that got there announced us as a group of ten we were not allowed. We did make an effort to make a reservation but no one answered. 🙄When you try to make a reservation of 9 or more you have to call in. The not-so-gentleman also informed me that since the first person announced that they had been on a wine tour they were not welcomed because they were presumed belligerent. So needless to say the group moved on and headed to a more accepting winery, Cana. Go ahead and call them Greenhill- were the women in our group belligerent? No- we were barely noticeable- accept for the wine we purchased. My husband and I cancelled our membership that day. I have been wanting to for a long time. They have never been kind or attentive to me. Ignoring me when I walk in unless my husband happens to be present. I guess I have never been good enough for their taste. It’s not welcoming at all. It’s like you should be thankful to them to be there- some good wines- yes, overpriced- yes!

A perfect winery to visit in Middleberg, Va. My family had a wonderful time! We did the tasting and ordered some delicious charcuterie boards! Soooo good! Tray, was excellent gave us a lot of information about each wine and was so friendly!!!

Was it discrimination? Did our money not look old enough? It’s unclear. After multiple attempts to make a reservation for a professional business team celebration that went unanswered, when we tried to go to Greenhill (on a Thursday at 3pm), which has previously been one of my favorite VA spots for wine, we were unceremoniously asked to leave.Upon arrival, we were told by not one, but two managers that their group policy meant we weren’t allowed to be there, and even if we split up into multiple smaller groups OR if someone left, they would not serve us because we’d brought 10 people instead of their desired 9. In the immortals words of Shakespeare…WTF.When told that we had inquired multiple times about a reservation and their team a) hadn’t been responsive and b) had communicated the opposite, they further refused, wouldn’t make an exception, and continued to reiterate that it must have been our fault and misunderstanding. (It was incredibly strange and low key hostile despite the fact that we’d been very polite.) #gaslitI honestly had trouble comprehending, but fortunately, I could hear quite easily as their words echoed in the entirely empty tasting room.As a business owner, it was a helpful clinic of how NOT to treat potential customers intent on spending money with you… ensuring they leave with a terrible taste in their mouth (and never taste Greenhill Wine again).I was struck by just how many ways they COULD have handled the situation, from reiterating the policy but allowing us to sit outside in a secluded corner (not a soul was out there), making it possible for us to make a reservation for a private space on the spot (which I asked about!) or even just sending us away with a bottle on the house or after a taste. Literally so many options instead of rudely telling us we’d have to leave.Instead, we went to Tremolo downtown, where Jarad and Nick and the team took excellent care of us and redeemed the night entirely. I recommend you do the same.

It’s a gorgeous winery, spectacular view, great wines selection and the best the food plates, only thing I was no happy about it is all lawn table were empty and they made us wait more than 30 minutes to get one, awa some place and great service.

Greenhill is undoubtedly the premier destination for wine enthusiasts in Loudoun County, boasting an exceptional selection of wines. As loyal patrons and members of their wine club, my family and I have been frequenting Greenhill for several years. Being a discerning wine connoisseur with a predilection for Bordeaux, I am particularly meticulous when it comes to the local wines I indulge in. Fortunately, Greenhill consistently surpasses my expectations.Initially, I was taken aback by the presence of numerous one-star ratings for Greenhill. However, upon closer examination, I realized that most of these complaints pertained to issues with the venue, whether warranted or not, and not the quality of the wine itself. This trend is regrettably prevalent in many review posts, where people tend to prioritize rating based on the ambiance and setting rather than the wine—a practice that starkly contrasts with my own approach. While there is nothing inherently wrong with considering the venue, for me, the wine takes precedence.Let me be clear, if I were in search of mediocre wine, I could easily acquire it at a considerably lower cost from a local store and find a pleasant location to savor it. However, what truly sets Greenhill apart is its unwavering commitment to crafting exceptional, well-crafted wines. Rest assured, Greenhill consistently delivers on this front, leaving no room for disappointment. It is essential to understand that Greenhill is not the ideal destination for those seeking a rowdy party atmosphere with light, fruity, and sweet wines. If such an experience is what you desire, then perhaps Greenhill may not be the best fit for your preferences. Nonetheless, I must acknowledge that there are occasions when a good, sweet wine hits the spot, although this is not the primary focus of what Greenhill has to offer. In summary, if you are searching for a remarkable selection of high-quality wines, skillfully created and presented in a splendid setting, Greenhill will undoubtedly exceed your expectations. However, if you are seeking a lively, exuberant atmosphere and wines that lean towards the lighter, fruitier side, you might want to explore other options. At Greenhill, it's all about the wine, and they excel at providing an extraordinary experience for true wine enthusiasts.

We had a private tasting here to celebrate my birthday. The winery team was incredible to work with and made the day perfect. On top of that, the wine was delicious! We will definitely be heading back here for more future fun.

It is a nice winery, with large outdoor spaces with tables and benches, great for a picnic. The site is very clean and well organized. Wine is excellent, but some wines are available only by bottle, not by glass. Unfortunately, you can't get "wine tasting" outside (you can only get a glass or a bottle). Place is elegant, but the bill is a bit more expensive than other wineries.

Wonderful consistently good wines. Dry Riesling a highlight. Had a wonderful tasting with Kristel (maybe misspelled, but very knowledgeable and fun lady with red hair). Def coming back!

Sydney T — Google review

July 3rd was our first time visiting this winery. They are only dog friendly outside, not inside and given the hot and humid July temps, we won’t be back until the Fall/Spring when the temps are cooler for our pup. But we made it a quick visit to at least try the wines and they are delicious! The staff is knowledgeable and the scenery is beautiful.

Kristin M — Google review

I really liked this winery. We did the flights, which offered a very generous tasting for 2 people. The grounds are beautiful & the staff is friendly. If you live in the DMV, it’s definitely worth a the drive for an adult-only afternoon. They do offer a cheese plate. Although we didn’t try it (one is lactose intolerant/the other not a fan of cheese), it looked delish!!!

C W — Google review

I had a wonderful time visiting a friend and tasting wine at this winery yesterday. The tasting areas are nicely decorated and help reduce background sounds. Their wine was also surprisingly delicious.

Liz W — Google review

Cost $14 per tasting.Wines as of summer 2017: 3 whites 3 reds (see photo).Been here twice, this place has a new huge tasting room that is very comfortable with a large outdoor porch and picnic tables with umbrellas. They have some nice views as well.I found the price the worst part as they are significantly more than any other winery I've been to in the northern VA area as well as offering way less wines. They cost about $10 a glass as well or more. The wines I did enjoy as they had good flavor. but they are not worth the cost in my opinon. Recommend visiting if you plan to spend that much on a trip. If you're looking for more for less I'd look elsewhere.I'll adjust rating if prices or number of wines improve.

Michael — Google review

Awesome views, friendly service throughout visit, pleasant experience with no obvious flaws! Worth a visit for sure. $20 tastings. Wine selection is mainly classic grape varietals. I love sweeter wines but be aware the selection consists of dry wines only (wine with residual sugar). Go elsewhere for sweet wines. Otherwise, let me summarize by saying the beautiful property and calming, relaxing atmosphere kept us here enjoying the charcuterie and fresh bread (no butter :..( , lol) regardless of the lack of sweet wine selection I usually prefer. Keep in mind I’m 27 and not a sommelier by any means, which is why I won’t comment much on the actual wine selection. My partner LOVED the selection, especially the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, so you may also. Check photos of the tasting and ordering menus to decide yourself, but I can comfortably say this place is worth the visit if you have time! I had fun :).

Food & Drink

Catoctin Creek Distilling Company is a family-owned distillery that specializes in producing organic whiskey, gin, and brandy. The company offers tours, tastings, and bottles to their customers. The staff members are friendly and knowledgeable about the products they offer and the history of the building they occupy. They also allow customers to sample off-menu items to help them decide what to take home.

Great tasting servings of drinks in a fun, retro environment. I really liked their gin.

Steve A — Google review

A distillery with a unique history that you can learn about on the distillery tour. Point of advice, though: eat before coming here. Whiskeys were good, but slightly one-note. Perhaps it was just the day I visited, but my experience was diminished by an off-putting sewage smell. Still, worth a visit.

Nikhil K — Google review

Love this distillery. They are always friendly when you come in, are wicked knowledgeable about anything whiskey and they make awesome regular and limited releases. Sign up for their Newsletter, as it tells you about upcoming events like new releases and bottling workshops....oh yeah, the bottling workshop was a hoot. You work with a small group to hand bottle a batch of whiskey, can buy a bottle that you processed, and after it's all done you get to kick back at the bar and go through a tasting!

Dropped by for a taste of whiskey that I couldn’t find at the ABC Store. Friendly staff here with a large tasting room. Tried the Rye Whiskey with Hot Honey. A little burn from the chiles followed by the burn from the rye and then smoothed by the honey. Delicious combination!

Beautifully situated and decorated store/bar/distillery. The tour was very educational and we enjoyed everything we tasted. I’m NOT a whiskey drinker but their whiskey is so smooth, delicately sweet and just well balanced. Enjoyed the gin too. Appreciate that it’s a woman-owned and highly knowledgable, passionate staff

MJ E — Google review

I was gifted a bottle of Catoctin Creek’s rye whiskey a couple years ago. I have loved the bottle myself, and it has been a favorite of those I share a glass.I had the opportunity to visit the distillery a couple weeks ago, and had a fun, but interesting experience. When my friend and I showed up, we were sat, and also notified that the tour we signed up for may not be a tour they were offering. We were a bit confused since we signed up on the website before arriving, but we’re pretty good with the flow people and was okay with whatever was offered in terms of a tour.Their distillery is small, and this translates to the tour experience. It’s short and straight to the point of the facts of their distilling process. The tour itself was slightly awkward, but there were factors outside of the distillery’s control that contributed to this. We were also reminded during the tour and after the tour, that the tour itself was free. We were provided with the fact that the distillery was woman-owned, which made me even happier to continue to support such a quality local product. After the brief tour, you are sat back at the bar or sitting area for your flight tasting. There was some slight confusion on the flight considering the flight was pre-purchased online prior to the tour. The flight tasting experience we received was interesting. Our tour guide was very friendly and spoke with my friend and I almost exclusively after the tour. We were thanked for our attitudes during the tour as she’s had other unpleasant experiences with people. Our chat was fun but overall slightly uncomfortable at times. It almost felt like she was trying to bartend, when I’m not sure that is what was needed. The whiskey flight itself was phenomenal. My buddy and I specifically wanted to try their Hot Honey Rye. The honey was very evident in the sip, and complimented the spirit in a way I wasn’t expecting. Their gin was also delicious, and I’m not much a gin drinker myself.Overall I am grateful for the experience to visit Catoctin Creek and to continue supporting their product.

A unique, historic setting, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. We love the co*cktail flight, which changes monthly. It's super tasty, with interesting, creative mixes and fun names. The last two times we've been in, Maria helped us and we had such a great time!! Will definitely be back.

I tried the co*cktail flight, which included three of their holiday-themed co*cktails: a Pinch of Grinch, Snowcapped Sunflower Sour, and Rosemary Rain. All three were tasty. My favorite was the gin co*cktail - it was refreshing and slightly sweet.

Not pictured: liquor. Because it was so good it didn't last.Stopped here a while back with the family after finishing up the W&OD rail trail. And glad we did. The staff was so friendly and not only knowledgeable about the whiskey on offer but also shared with us the amazing history of the building they are in. They went so far as to let us sample off menu items so we could better decide what to take home. There's a reason they're a distillery known not just across Virginia but, beyond.

Had lots of fun on our distillery tour. All staff were very kind and knowledgeable, drinks were great, and very cute & cozy old building.

Emma R — Google review

Its a pretty small shop so the tour was super short but every single one of their spirits I tried was quite good. The service was also very friendly and just genuine. Would recommend.

M. M — Google review

Absolutely amazing experience at the whiskey bottling workshop!! Scott, the owner, does a wonderful job of giving a history lesson of whiskey in the US, a distillery tour, and the bottling experience. Finishing up with a tasting of their unique and delicious spirits was definitely the icing on the cake. Definitely recommend the experience as anything from a day date, to a guys (or girls) outing. Plan to stay after and enjoy more of what they have. We went home with a case because whiskey you bottled on your own make for a great gift for other whiskey fans!!!

Very nice comfortable hotel in the grounds of the Hollywood Casino & the race track. Large parking area, AAA Rate, lower then their best rate. If one plays at the casino and you have points in "My Cash" section of your Players Account you may apply to the room rate. Standard Rooms might remind you of a Hampton inn or Double Tree. Comfy.

I would give it five stars except for the smoking. Even in the high-end restaurant you smell smoke while you are trying to eat. Most of our sense of taste comes through aroma. No point in paying big bucks for a fancy hunk of meat, craft beer or wine if you can’t taste it anyway. Everything else about the place was great, especially Sara Evans!

Your shuttle drive, on March 21 Thursday at about 10:30 am or so was so excellent and thoughtful, I believe his name was Larson. If not look who drove this morning. What a honest and kind man he was wish more people were like him , Marie Henry

First live horse race ever. The ticket seller explained what to do and we won our very first race. Beautiful facility and fabulous horses. Definitely would do again.

This was a nicer hotel than we thought it would be. The friendliness of the staff and the people staying here was outstanding! Track view rooms are nice, even more in the morning for horse workouts.

Lots to do a great place to have a good time. Good food helpful staff

Ted K — Google review

The rooms are a bit dated for a casino hotel and only has a continental breakfast. It only has one elevator which is a pain during busy hours. No pool. Would be nice if tv's were on a swivel so you could watch while in a chair in the corner of room. Nice to have shuttle to the casino but if you plan on staying past 2am you need to take your own vehicle.

Todd G — Google review

Am hoping they put a hot-tub or pool in the hotel soon. With all the money the casino is raking in, with very little payouts you would think they would have built a waterpark by now. Rooms seem clean, and love the seasonal bar indoors. Having the bus service to take you back and forth to the casino is enjoyable. Located very close to many eateries that are in walking distance. Morning breakfast is very nice. Great view of the race track from some upper floor rooms facing it with a balcony. Handicap accessibility is top notch. lastly a great carport that makes loading and unloading alot nicer when you don't have to worry about getting soaked in the rain.

Nice spacious and clean rooms. Free shuttle to the casino. Free breakfast of Danishes, muffins, breads, cereal, hard-boiled eggs. Juices, coffee and tea, fresh fruit. Friendly and helpful employees. Reasonable prices.

4/9 I asked night shift why the side door was locked and he told me that its so he can watch suspicous people like me come in and keep a eye on me.Completely unprovoked. He looks suspicious flirting with the male employees who work at the hotel. You got hotel staff just hanging over the desk like Pamela Anderson worked there. After he said that I tried fighting a guy in the parking lot and everyone else that had his attitude.Ask and you shall recieve.when I came back from sheets he was watching me out the blinds like a sex offender.the guy who checked me in before that was looking at me like I was wierd but he was polite and respectful, actually very pleasent.there was a pill left that house keeping should have seen.turns out to be a antibiotic for a dog.But I'm sure those aren't good for children to consume.I am contacting the owner.

I’m here now and when checking in yesterday my check in time was at 4 my room wasn’t ready till almost 5 .then we get in our room the blanket was dirty so we asked them to come change it they acted like that was a problem then they changed it and it was still dirty and then for the casino make the kind of money they bring in the breakfast was nothing but pastries, oatmeal or cereal. The only nice customer service we got is when we first checked in . Would not recommend staying here unless you have free nights you are better off somewhere else.

Customer service is important, possibly the most important part of any business outside of product delivery And representation, And I’m leaving this review to mention that Heather at The Inn at Charles Town Is wonderful at her job. Heather is clearly invested in making sure customers expectations are met and any issues resolved. I did not have a pleasant experience at this hotel, but how a business recovers and retains a customer is so very important. Heather was quick to hear my concerns and happy to meet with a wonderful resolution, which is why I’m leaving a positive review. All of these stars belong solely to Heather. All businesses should have managers pleasant to deal with and understanding as she is.

C M — Google review

This could have had more stars if they had at least one restaurant within the hotel that you can eat at but the hotel and casino are separate. You need to take a trolly over and all the places to eat are in the casino. It was freezing and about to snow I was not going on the trolly just to eat. Also, my friend had her daughter so she couldn't even go over there.

Maria P — Google review

First off, I love that they have smoking rooms. That’s extremely rare these days. But service is pretty much non-existent. We stayed 2 nights and generally hotels don’t clean your room when you stay more than one night, but they do usually bring you more towels and take out your trash. There was no maid service at all. One of our pillows had what appeared to be a blood stain on it. But there was no hair or anything so I think they were clean. I didn’t see a schedule for the shuttle so we didn’t even use it. Usually they have pamphlets or something in rooms to explain services and rules and stuff. They just have the fire escape plan on your door and the checkout time. The bed was very comfy and the room was ok. We stayed on Sunday and Monday nights so the rate was less. I definitely don’t think these rooms are worth $300/ night even if there is celebrity entertainment on weekends. Overall, it wasn’t bad. I don’t think they put much into making the rooms very fancy because most people are at the casino the majority of time. The breakfast wasn’t that appealing to me. For one, the hard boiled eggs were warm. They should make them the night before and refrigerate. Who eats warm boiled eggs? Not me. I just had juice and a mini muffin. That muffin was ultra moist and tasty though. Oh and the in-room coffee pots are not environmentally friendly at all. Usually coffee pots have a tray you put the filtered pod into, but this one doesn’t have a tray. Each pod per cup has its own plastic tray. That’s a lot of plastic waste.

Such a great experience! I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area with littles. My three year old loved all the toys/activities, enjoyed the puppet show and loved to play along, had a blast dancing with the other children after. This place is a hidden gem!

I really enjoyed this place. We took our toddler's from our church here yesterday. There is a lot more to do than we thought! They had a whole room where the kids could play and enjoy themselves before the show. He ahowed the kids how to use finger puppets if we decided to buy them and it was great! I'll include pictures for all.

Loved it! A must-do if you are in the area. Joe is an excellent artist who is passionate about keeping this traditional art of storytelling alive and goes out of his way to make you feel right at home while making it an enjoyable experience for everyone. We arrived a few mins late, however Joe was able to accommodate us and patiently waited for us to settle down before starting the show. The show is about a half hour long, thoroughly entertaining and very reasonably priced, definitely check out the cute collection of finger puppets that are available to purchase.

A magic place for kids! The theatre and show had parents and kids smiling! A must see!👍👍! The whole vibe in the place is amazing. My kids loved it and Joes excitement and passion is totally inspiring. It’s great to see something so classic still resonating with children. All the kids were mesmerized by the puppet show. Did I say this is a must see if you have kids? We will be back 100% on our next visit to see great grandma. Thanks again Joe! This family is gonna be smiling the whole drive back to Canada!

An option for white-water rafting, tubing, kayaking, canoeing, biking & hiking excursions.

This was so much fun. The raft guides were all so great and knowledgeable. We had 3 rafts in our group which is how I got to experience more than one guide. The views were amazing you won't be disappointed. We got to swim the river and float down the river in a small current. Highly recommended. It's a 3 hrs tour on the river so eat before or pack a lunch for after. Light snack was provided mid tour. Closed toe water shoes recommended.

I had a fantastic tubing experience with River and Trail Outfitters in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. The customer service was exceptional, and the staff was incredibly helpful throughout the entire trip. Their friendly and attentive approach added to the overall enjoyment of the outing. I highly recommend their services for a memorable tubing adventure.

Enjoyed my time on the rafts. The raft guides were funny and excited to be there. My guide, Erin, was knowledgeable and ensured we enjoyed the water.

We had a fantastic time rafting with River and Trail! Our guide Noah was a great conversationalist and his love for what he does really shows! We would absolutely come again and would definitely request Noah again. Overall a 10/10 experience!

Omg my husband and I had an absolute blast yesterday white water rafting!! Gigi was our guide and she was amazing. All the other guides were amazing as well. Such great energy and vibes. We loved it so much! Highly recommend this place. The bus driver was hilarious too!

Jacqueline P — Google review

The staff was great and the service was great; however the trip was extremely short. From where we entered the water to where we exited, we were on the water for less than 40 minutes and you could early see the exit from the starting location. The staff was lovely and offered us to go down a second time due to the fast trip, however we were still disappointed in how short the trip was and would prefer a longer trip like some of the other companies offer.

Lauren V — Google review

Duckies are challenging, make sure you're prepared to get stuck on a rock even if you're think you're a pro. The guides will help you get off the rocks. It'll be a workout! Transportation to and from the river is fine, but expect to help the crew out transporting the rafts and duckies. They will give you water and snacks though.

Jordan P — Google review

Really bad experience! Please read this before you go!!!!I went whitewater tubing on 8/6 11am. We have a group of ten people. None of us enjoyed the trip. First of all, there is a problem with the routing. Too many raised rocks, no way around. we had to walk in the water. The safety measures are not enough. We saw a girl's leg was scratched by a rock, which was very serious and shed a lot of blood. But there is no security officer to ask for help. I went back to the cabin and told the staff that they knew about itOne more thing, it's not very fun. In the description, it is written that the whole journey is 1-2h or whitewater tubing. As a result, it took us nearly four hours to get ashore, and everyone was exhausted. Then it started to rain. Our friend is still stuck in the river. We ask staff for help. They couldn't get through the phoneMany of my friends have varying degrees of cuts, sunburns, and sore joints. Travel should be thrilling not four hours of cardio!!!I should ask for a refund

We had a delightful time. All of their equipment was in very good condition. They checked everyone's pfd's and helmets to ensure they were fit correctly and tight enough for our adventure. Maria, one of the guides, entertained everyone on the 12 minute bus ride, with funny West Virginia jokes. Our guide, Greta, did an excellent job of guiding us through the river and rapids. She was very personable and provided clear instructions which gave us confidence that we would go through each rapid smoothly, which we did. I highly recommend the adventure.

Gay L — Google review

My wife and I had never done whitewater rafting before, and this was a great first experience. The guides were funny, kind and helpful, making this a wonderful experience. I would recommend this group to any first-timer or somebody wanting to have a fairly casual day with class 1-2 (and one 3) rapids.

Eric K — Google review

Great experience! Our raft guide Annette was super friendly, provided lots of great info and guided us perfectly through the rapids! It was my groups first time going white water rafting and it was a great time!

David H — Google review

My son(8) and I had a great day out on the river with these guys. Made the reservation the night before with no problem getting a spot. Our guide, Aaron, was super cool. He was very informative, polite, accommodating and by his attitude genuinely loves being a guide. His attitude made up for the low water level on the River. Check in process was simple and the other guides were great as well, the one giving us our instructions and safety rundown (Greta?) also had a good long list of jokes to make the hot bud ride fun(totally stealing the jokes on the local west Virginians). Would definitely go again and plan to when the rivers a bit higher. Great job guys, loved it and so did the kiddo!

Aaron M — Google review

Absolutely enjoyed the lazy river tubing!!! It is so relaxing. Lots of fun was had by all! The scenery is amazing!

Gillian H — Google review

We rented a tandem kayak from their Brunswick Family Campground location and really enjoyed the self-paced trip down river, with the current. The only critique I have is that we had to wait at the takeout point for a really long time for the shuttle.

Julie P — Google review

Had an overall awful experience. There wasn't enough duckies originally packed so we had to wait for the guide to get his kayak and so we were already behind the rafts at the start. Our guide would just shoot the rapids without telling us how to get through so we just guessed our way through. The water was low too so we all got stuck many times on rocks. It felt like we were spending more time getting unstuck from rocks than paddling. When my husband caught up to a raft for better guidance through the rapids, he was scolded. Will never use this company again

Emily — Google review

We had a blast our first time ever rafting. I'm so glad we went to River & Trail Outfitters. Our guide Hayden was fun and professional. We're definitely coming back! The Shenandoah and Potomac rivers are beautiful here and so is the surrounding area. 😎

Nicole T — Google review

my sisters, my mom and i went here for the first time not knowing what to expect. i had a good time and wouldn’t mind going again. but if you’re a first timer like us, i’d recommend to bring your own water with you. they do provide water and snacks about halfway through, but just something to keep in mind.

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is a family-friendly destination that offers a blend of outdoor activities, historical sites, and museums. Established in 1944, the park encompasses numerous historic landmarks related to John Brown and the Civil War, as well as pristine nature spots and viewpoints along the Shenandoah River valley. The town itself features historic buildings, monuments, and a charming downtown district.

Enjoyed it. Wonderful using the bus to shuttle. Never had to wait around 5 minutes for the shuttle, but was never full. Definitely worth it. Beautiful town, thankful for the preservations.**Bring insect repellent if you plan on walking near the water**

Definitely a gem in WV. Free shuttle from visitor center to lower town to see many historic shops, beautiful river views, and old rail trails. Easy walking. Plan to spend half day enjoying the historic park.

Susan D — Google review

This is at the top of my list of all-time favorite parks I’ve visited.Sometimes I go to a park fully aware of what I want to see and do. This visit I just knew I wanted to explore the history and do some hiking.I went to the visitors center and spoke with the ranger there about what I was interested in doing. She was so helpful and gave me a few maps while pointing out the hikes that’d suit me. It couldn’t have been a better day.In no time at all I hopped on the free shuttle to lower town and immediately went to the trails. The views at the top were so iconic and picturesque that it was hard to leave.Eventually I hiked back down and explored the town’s history a little. Then I meandered (as I usually do) back onto the trails and ventured along the river trail and ultimately Appalachian Trail. It was an incredible experience and I can’t wait to come back.

Nick L — Google review

Harpers Ferry is always a great stop with plenty to do. We have made short and long trips depending on what we want to see, and there is always something new to learn about. When we come in the winter or early in the day we park in town by the train station for easy access. Today the lord were all full so we parked at the visitor center and took the bus in, and our was really very convenient. There are so many walking and hiking trails in the area, and with the C&O canal and the Appalachian Trail passing by you can really go anywhere from here. There are plenty of trails easy for all ages, and more challenging trails like Maryland Heights to give you a good hike with great views. For an easy walk I love to walk across the bridge to the C&O, especially if I can catch a train passing through! There are very fun shops in town as well, where you can learn about history, like the history of candy, and take souvenirs home with you.

Really nice beautiful scenery and just so nice. Free bus down to the town. Military got in for free. So much history in Harpers Ferry. Full off lovely colonial houses and lovely little shops.

Sarah B — Google review

Literally the BEST National Park System owned site I've ever been to! I unfortunately wasn't able to hike on any of the trails, but the small houses and businesses along the road were extremely interesting! I remember visiting a small church nearing the top of the hill that was beautiful. There was a candy shop I went into and the woman working the desk told me all about the history of candies like Turkish delight. The restaurants were also very good. The Rabbit Hole is a great choice to go to. I'll definitely go back some day when I can hike up the trails.

Ethan H — Google review

We loved the park so beautiful and lots of trials to go on and the town of Harpers ferry was small bonus with cute shops, history and small pubs to catch a quick bite at. It's crowded on the weekends so be prepared to park at the park and shuttle bus down. But don't worry there's lots of busses coming all the time. This is a great day trip or couple day trip to explore the area and other small towns around. West Virginia is a beautiful state especially if you love the outdoors, nature and laid back living.

Cyndi W — Google review

Lots of history here. You can go to the National Park visitor center and then ride the bus into town. This is a good option as parking is scarce and metered. Entry to the park is $20 per family and is good for 3 days, or you can use your National Park pass. We rode our bikes which is another option. Once in town, there's lots to see. The lower town has many historic buildings, and many have been turned into small museums. There is a railroad trestle you can walk across and see a tunnel entrance. When you're in Harper's Ferry, where the Shenandoah and Patomac rivers meet is also where WV, VA, and MD all come together. There are many places to grab lunch, drinks, and ice cream. Some of the buildings are undergoing renovations. We spend about 4 hours there.

William — Google review

Such a wonderful, historic part of West Virginia that is definitely worth a visit. There is so much to see and do! The confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers provides a beautiful setting. Take time to stroll through the streets and shops of town. Take the short hike to the Jefferson Rock Lookout. There are several nice dining establishments. Plan on spending at least two to three hours at HFNHP.

Kerry M — Google review

This is a perfect place to visit for the fall season. The drive itself was a treat. I recommend parking at the Harpers Ferry National Park and pay the fee of 20 bucks (I wish I have known this beforehand), and from there they have a bus every 5 mins to take you to the downtown and self tour the area.

LJ A — Google review

I visited this national historic site on a rainy Tuesday morning in May. I have a national park pass so did not have to pay the $20 entrance fee. I visited the visitor center and was told to take the bus down to the old town section of the park. We wandered around and looked at the buildings. There were a couple of movies that explained the history of the area. There were no Rangers available to ask questions too. Having been to many other national parks and historic sites I would say this one was a bit underwhelming.

Sandra E — Google review

What a beautiful, incredible space. It really feels like stepping back in time. We went on a rainy Saturday in March and there wasn't too much trouble getting parking but I can imagine the parking fills up in the warmer weather. Definitely recommend parking in the NPS lot and taking the shuttle. The shuttle is very convenient and comes like every 10 minutes. The town itself offers all kinds of engagement from history to architecture to natural beauty. One can easily spend all day here exploring the town, trails and museum exhibits. There are a few stores; we really enjoyed the historic candy shop where you can buy candy that was popular in different historic eras. Don't forget to stop by the park store. There is a very good selection of books, Park swag, and more. Don't forget to get your passport stamps! Can't wait to return in the warmer months.

Ian R — Google review

Had a blast here. Hiking up Maryland Heights was an absolute treat, and the views of Harpers Ferry from the top were breathtaking. The hike itself was really enjoyable, perfect for a day out in nature. It was pretty packed and I couldn’t find parking at the train station, so I had to park further away. Fortunately, the park offers a free shuttle between the parking area and the town.

Pablo L — Google review

Beautiful historic town nestled in the mountains of West Virginia. Parking cost $20 and is tough to find in the small lots. There is a free lot just outside of town that you can park in and then walk to a bus stop to pick up a shuttle into town. We were lucky enough to find a spot in town. We walked across the train bridge, stop at the armory and ate lunch in town. There were lots of great places to stop and take pictures.

A. W — Google review

I did not realize you had to pay to visit Harpers Ferry. I didn’t know it was part of the National Park Service. Which was my bad for not doing my research. Thankfully I went on a day that wasn’t very busy. The shuttles to and from the drop offs were timely. I was alone when I visited and would definitely come back with my husband and/or friends. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes there is lots to see.

Ivy — Google review

Went on a field trip here today with my kids' school. It was definitely beautiful. The shuttle bus downtown was awesome. I love that they play a recorded guide while on the shuttle. Everything was very clean, and you can tell the community cares. It's very interesting to see the history of this place!

Amber W — Google review

Very well organized. Drive to the public parking and take the bus back.Walk through town. It's very interesting history is worthwhile. R. E. Lee arrested John Brown near the current fire station. From the point you see three states, West Virginia, Virginia across the Shenandoah to the right and Maryland across the Potomac to the left. Walk across the bridge and see the city from Maryland Point, a 1 hour hike round trip since part of the trail is closed.

Stephen H — Google review

I brought my 16 year old son here for his first time, as he'd just read about the story of John Brown in his history class, & he was enamored. It was a wonderful experience. So much to see, & Harpers Ferry is the most charming little town! I'd been here 9 years ago, & I was so happy to bring him to see everything that I so much enjoyed, as well as discover how the exhibits had changed. Great experience, & perfect for a weekend family road trip!

Nature & Parks

The Morven Park Grounds is a massive historic estate and equestrian center with an 18th-century mansion and gardens. It houses the Winmill Carriage Museum, Museum of Hounds and Hunting, and hosts several international equestrian events every year like dressage and carriage driving. The park is spread over 1000 acres of land, providing ample space for activities such as horse riding, hiking, polo playing, among others.

We checked out Holiday Road here. It was a great place to hold the event. The park is expansive, well groomed, and there's tons of parking. There's a lot of history here: a mansion which was the home of a former governor, museum, and also equestrian center. There are nature trails and casual picnicking spots. You can take Holiday tours of the Davis mansion right now. I am fairly certain the gardens can be rented for parties and weddings as well. We didn't know of this park before Holiday Road, but we now consider it a great park to add in our rotation.

My daughter had a dressage event at Morven Park and it was a first class experience for us. The facilities were top-notch, with well-maintained arenas and plenty of space for spectators. The staff was friendly and helpful, and they went out of their way to make sure that everyone had a positive experience. We were especially impressed with the quality of the footing in the arenas. It was perfect for dressage, with just the right amount of give and support. The arenas were also well-lit, which made it easy to see the horses and riders even in the evening. In addition to the great facilities, Morven Park also offers a variety of amenities that make it a great place to host a dressage event. There is a large parking lot with plenty of spaces, and there are also restrooms and concessions available. There is also a large grassy area where spectators can relax and enjoy the show.Overall, we had a great experience at Morven Park. The Mansion was home of Westmoreland Davis, governor of Virginia during World War I. It is a hidden gem in Leesburg, entry to the gardens is free, you can bring your pets. There are tours of the mansion. There is plenty of parking, bathrooms and a section with picnic tables. It is a very pleasant place to walk, appreciate nature and spend a pleasant afternoon. The mansion is very well preserved as well as the stables and the servants' house. Highly recommended.

A spectacular walk through the Virginia countryside. Morven Park is an oasis in a large historic city. The city noises melt away and are replaced by birds chirping, bees humming, and wind rusling through the trees.

We were here for the Harry Potter Forbidden Forest Experience. We arrived around 9:30pm, so we didn't really get to see the grounds, however the event was awesome. All of the staff was super friendly and helpful. The visual and audible effects were great. The food left a little to be desired and we probably should have eaten before we went. The price of entrance was reasonable, however the price of food, drinks and souvenirs was a little high, but guess that's kind of expected. I was a little disappointed the spider scene wasn't working due to weather but it was still cool to see.

20220821 I can't believe that I haven't been here in over 5 years. I hiked the trail as I always do when I come to this park. I was really surprised to see so much rocks are on the trail which made it a bit challenging for my little paws with tiny paws. Also, several fallen trees that my girls have to jump over, and overgrown weeds on the trail. All did made the hike more interesting.5 years ago... I love this park. The section where the mansion is located is very clean and spacious with a garden, memorial, and other buildings. I love going hiking here with my dogs. The Ridge Top Trail is a great workout. It has a upward incline than a down hill hike. Be sure to wear hiking shoes because the down hill is pretty steep in some sections. This part is dog friendly. That's another section of trail that I skipped this time.

Attended the Harrry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience which is at Morven Park until Jan 2023.The grounds were well-kept for the event and everyone who worked there was lovely to talk to! It was absolutely beautiful. There were restrooms about halfway through (those fancy portable bathrooms) one was handicap accessible. I did see an accessible ramp for one of the interactions that required getting onto a platform as well, and believe that the path would have been alright if in a wheelchair as well. The time spent to set all of that up as well as how well done the effects were I'd say that even someone not "into" HP would appreciate this experience very much.

I went to the Harry Potter forbidden forest in Morven park Leesburg VA on Halloween night. The hike was beautiful and everything was perfect. This theme is open at the same location all the way until January 2023 if anyone wants to take the opportunity to go with family and friends. It’s a very safe place & clean.

Great place to hike. Beautiful house and grounds. Very nice boxwood gardens. Horse to ride. Buildings to tour. Plenty of parking. Picnic area. Lots of grounds to walk around.

We wished we knew about this lovely place earlier! Morven Park has a lot going for it: beautiful photogenic scenery, well kept gardens, and wide open spaces with lots of walking paths. There's free visitor parking and a few museums to enjoy. It's perfect for a relaxing weekend visit!

Morven Park is such a hidden gem of Northern Virginia! We originally found the park as part of a guide on day trips in the area. My family immediately fell in love with the beautiful grounds and the wonderful relaxing atmosphere of the park. The history and architecture make it such a special visit. It's a treat for the senses year round!!

Historic site of the famous 1862 Civil War battle features tours, interpretive programs & park land.

21,000 dead in America's deadliest one day battle. The visitor center is under construction so you have to go to the temporary site. It does have a good movie though.. as I drove and stopped at the 10 tour stops I walked in the sunken road or as it's called BLOODY LANE. When there climb the tower and get a good look at the battlefield. The go to Burnside's bridge to look at history over a peaceful stream.

Moving R — Google review

Fantastically preserved battlefield. I stopped on a Sunday, got my passport stamp and decided to do a self guided tour following the easy to locate signs along the roads throughout the park. The visitor center was under construction but the temporary one was just as good. I spent nearly two hours at the park but needed much more time. At least a day to see everything and probably longer to actually walk the many trails they have. I will be making my way back again as soon as I can to this wonderful park.

Nick S — Google review

Beautiful area with lots of sad history. At the time of my visit the visitor center was still being built. They do have a temporary with a small selection of souvenirs and some rangers on duty. They were friendly able to square me away with a military park pass. The auto tour is easy to follow and takes you past all the monuments. Each stop has lots of placards with battle and Army unit information.Added bonus: today I learned that Antietam is the birthplace of the Red Cross. See the added photosphere.Definitely a place worth checking out.

Matthew B — Google review

Beautiful spring day to come out and take a tour of the battlefield. It happened to be National Park weekend so the entrance fee of $20 was waived for visitors. The self guided driving tour is clearly marked on the map that you can pick up at the visitors center. Then follow the signs in the park and stop at the numbered plaques to see monuments and locations of pivotal battles.

A. W — Google review

We have a National Parks Pass so decided to try this park out (normally $20 a car). The permanent visitor center is under construction so they have a temporary center that is about what you would expect (ex. the "theater" showing the movie is now a TV and folding chairs) - IMO the only real reason to stop until the new one is ready is to visit the gift shop or bathroom....and apparently to voluntarily pay your park fee? I stopped in to show my card and get the map, but I never showed anything to anyone anywhere and never saw any park personnel outside the visitor center. That said, it was the first Monday in March and maybe saw a total of 10 people in my whole visit, which was lovely in and of itself. So, IDK, I guess a certain type of person loves these battlefield sites, and it isn't really me. I definitely appreciate the preservation of the park and having the undeveloped land. They have a handful of decorative cannons thrown about and LOTS of plaques about General XYZ attacked this direction at 7AM type stuff, but other than that, not sure what a tourist does here (particularly if you have kids to be entertained, god help you). I suppose this is for war buffs and people super familiar with the battle details. Of course, the cemetery is a deserving memorial to the incredible number of lives lost. The land is pretty in this area with rolling hills and distant mountains, so I took a lot of the hiking trails (which were marginally marked, didn't match the trail path on the map, and most of which just walk through open fields) and still had done everything in 4-hours. Overall I am happy we have the NPS and while this park isn't one of my favorites for revisiting purposes, I am sure there are others who enjoy it.

Jason Z — Google review

A must visit for American History enthusiasts! Definitely worth the $10 price of admission. There are many monuments dedicated to troops from Delaware, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, etc. and just a handful of Confederate monuments. Antietam reminds me of a smaller Gettysburg which is a good thing because the landscape isn’t overwhelmed with too many monuments and memorials. The visitor center was in a temporary building as the new visitor center will be up in the fall of 2022. They have a Junior Ranger program for the kids. I’d recommend at least two days here but a lot can be covered with the driving tour. The battlefields are very well maintained. Make sure to visit Burnside Bridge and the Observation Tower!

TPS — Google review

Went on a Friday, rangers and staff were so helpful and friendly. Pointed out many different things to see. Self guided auto tour was very easy to follow. Temporary visitors center is adequate, but the new center looks like it will be wonderful! The stops along the tour are very well maintained. Whole tour gives the scope of the bloody battle that took place here. Loved going up the observation tower to look out over everything. Well worth the $10 per person/$20 per car admission, plus it's good for 3 days!

Mark S — Google review

I've been visiting this historical landmark since I was a child, and now I take my kids here for a history lesson. It's such a beautiful, but haunting place, full of educational resources, landscapes, beautiful statues, and memorials for the fallen soldiers. It's definitely one stop you shouldn't miss. The 4th of July was always a great time, with the free fireworks show and orchestra. I'll always be back.

Tara T — Google review

This is a favorite hike for my children and I. Many different trails for different skill levels, including paved roads to cruise through the park or for handicap accessibility. Plenty of parking. Yours available. Recently remodeled visitor center. Lots of historic sites to see and things to learn.

Ashley G — Google review

Wicked piece of history for everyone to visit and enjoy. A must see for any American who wants to learn about history or any history buffs. It's also beautiful nature fields now too. So many historical sites to visit and plaques to read and learn more about American history. Hours of endless fields to walk around and cannons and buildings to explore and read about. Free to visit and for everyone to enjoy :)

Dane M — Google review

Excellent. To be able to walk the fields as they were for the most part is awesome. Being here puts a lot more perspective on the actual battle as far as the terrain. I had no idea it was so hilly and wide open. The ranger staff was great. They helped me figure out the accompanying videos online for some of the stops.

Brian S — Google review

We arrived and stopped at the temporary visitor center. There is construction at the real visitor center but the temporary one was laid out very well with a gift shop, maps, displays , a movie presentation , and friendly informative park rangers. & rest rooms. We started the auto tour and listened to the app ( qr code can be scanned in visitor center) at each tour stop. We started at the Dunkin Church. You can go in and look around. We continued to the rest of the tour stops. This is a very interesting tour and the videos for each stop really gave a lot of info. Excellent views and scenery. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to see all the stops and listen to the videos. Great preservation of history. ( entry fee was $20 for one car and was worth it).

Tammi J — Google review

There is a tempo visitor center at the moment (6/22/23) while they remodel the original building. Enjoyed the starting video and we spent a little over two hours on the driving tour. Loved the view from the tower that was built.

This park was great. We were there yesterday and it was the first day the new park office was open. It was really well done and a very nice building. We enjoyed the exhibits and the movie, and the park was not busy at all. Then, we came back in the evening to walk the paths, take pictures and see the park. During that part of the trip, we saw 2 other cars the entire time. It was a very nice visit and we would definitely come back.

Steineld 8 — Google review

Really good location for a day trip. Lots of historical monuments and placards to give historical relevancy to all the locations on the tour.Such a beautiful area it's hard to reconcile it with the fact that it used to be such a bloody battlefield.

Louie H — Google review

We loved our visit here! Visited on a cold windy day in January, but the whole family found things they enjoyed exploring and learning about (Inc. Clara Barton info, where soldiers came from to serve, the bridge and tree that was there during the fighting)

Jen P — Google review

Great place of history. So surreal of a place. To imagine that so many died for what they believed. It's hard to believe that so many men fought and died in such a small area.

Mark A — Google review

Fantastic experience! The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The grounds were well kept. I especially enjoyed hiking the Cornfield and West Woods trails (unpaved). Really gives a sense of what the soldiers faced in terms of terrain during the battle. The gift shop was small, but good. Very good selection of books considering the size of the shop.

Derrick F — Google review

Such a neat place with such an important history and not nearly as busy / crowded as Gettysburg. We didn’t have as much time as I would have liked - we spent 2 hrs- could have easily doubled that. The visitors center is quite small, but very interesting. Not to mention the drive to get there is absolutely beautiful.

Amy L — Google review

Great battlefield to visit! Very well preserved and fantastic views and backdrops. The audio tour is great, however cell service is very scare in places so that made preparation from stop to stop slightly challenging. You do have to pay to visit this battlefield. Its kind of odd and unless you do your homework ahead of time, you wouldn't know that very easily. You have to stop in the visitors center and play the honor system to get a ticket. Not sure how that's regulated since there are several different entrances to the battlefield. Regardless, its worth the admission and it goes to keeping the battlefield in the great condition you see it.Be prepared to take lots of pictures and spend some time getting from stop to stop around the battlefield. Even though its a lot of steps, it is absolutely worth going to the top of the tower. The view is incredible up there!I visited in the spring time, but I would have to assume its one of the prettiest places in the country during the fall.History fan or not, its a place worth seeing for what impact it had on our country!

Factory Outlets

Hagerstown Premium Outlets is a charming open-air shopping destination situated just off Interstate 70, only three miles east of Hagerstown. The village-style outlet mall offers a wide array of name-brand stores where shoppers can find apparel and merchandise at discounts of up to 65%. Popular brands like Banana Republic, Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, Kate Spade New York, Guess, and Under Armour are among the many options available.

I love the location and I love the outlets. I totally enjoy driving out here from Washington DC every so often just to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and to get out into the mountains where things are slower and the people are friendlier and for the nice scenery. Some of the outlets are kind of expensive but some of them are relatively cheap. A particularly like Kirkland's is they have a lot of really nice Christmas merchandise for very good prices. They have a bath and body works store, a Levi's store, and under armor store, a casual men's big and tall store, and quite a bit more. I was extremely impressed with the food court. We got the Chinese takeout and it was delicious! We've been several buffets over the last couple months that haven't been half as good as this food. The broccoli was tender and delicious, the orange chicken I had was great, the food that the other members of my party had was fantastic, and we all finished all of our food and were satisfied. The bathrooms are clean and the people are friendly. We will definitely return.

Chris M — Google review

This outlet center has unfortunately fallen on some tough times with 50% or more of the stores being vacant. There is now a thrift store here so the name Premium Outlets hardly fits. If you live close, there are still some big name staples, but I wouldn't travel far to go to just this center.

K K — Google review

Oh how the mighty have fallen! Strolling past the many closed, vacant, and shuttered storefronts makes one wonder how much longer this once popular shopping destination can survive. The one store I wanted to shop in was locked during normal business hours with employees inside and a makeshift sign advising customers to retun later. No thank you. This seemed to symbolize this stores inevitable surrender to its dire circ*mstances and sealed for me my decision that I saw no reason to return to Hagerstown Premium Outlets in future.

KS W — Google review

Don't waste your time and money going here. There's only one store open for every three that are closed. This is wasted land that could be better used to provide housing for our homeless VETERANS!Yes, I said VETERANS!

Mr. E — Google review

Very dated. I'd say at least 60% of the stores were empty. Be surprised if it was there much longer which is a real shame. Worth a visit if you're passing......but I wouldn't make a special journey to go there. Hope it gets some investment and proves me wrong 😕

Mark F — Google review

Came last week. Most stores were gone. Playground was closed. Ride animals all turned off and stole my quarters. If you are going to unplug rides, put up a sign so kids are not disappointed. Came for Carter's and furniture store, otherwise a ghost town. Would consider coming back, but will avoid because have to deal with disappointed kids when they cannot use perfectly good playground right in front of their face. Same with rides. Most playgrounds never shut down for covid and you can go mask free on plane as of today! So why after long car ride kids cannot use the playground here? If playground was open it would be perfect place to shop with kids, now it's opposite. Yes, little things like this do keep shoppers away and make them pick elsewhere.

Jane D — Google review

Stores are clean and nice. Layout is good. I would recommend eating before or after shopping, the dining area doesn’t have great options but the stores are good. Usually sales and many stores accept military discounts. You never know what you might find

Tyler M — Google review

I love the this outlet because it’s never crowded!! I get to take my time shopping and not bump into people or be hustled around. However with that being said, It is very bare of an outlet, so it’s slim pickings. A lot of businesses have closed down so there are a bunch of empty spots. But it also leaves room for a lot of small businesses to take advantage of the empty spots. I was in a thrift store and they offered 75% off their merchandise because they are moving to a bigger location within the outlet. I mainly come here because they have an amazing coffee shop within the food court, JPmino. Otherwise I occasionally purchase shoes here for they are so much cheaper than out regular stores or online.

Janice T — Google review

This place used to be great but as of late it’s just blah.. Honestly if you wanna shop hassle free with no crowds and plenty of parking this is your place. Make sure you eat ahead of time because the food court is sketchy half the places are closed and the other half just looks dirty. Only reason I’d make the drive up is to go to The North Face store..

Alex T — Google review

Got some adidas, Skechers, kate spade items at a heavily discounted price.

Ed R — Google review

The outlets are showing their age and look run down and dirty. Many stores have left and the options to shop are abysmal at best. One of the best stops is the North Face Outlet as it’s one of the few in the region. Outside of that you might find better shopping by driving to Clarksburg for a full experience of stores and a modern updated clean facility.

Justin A — Google review

I wish they had more open stores. I used to frequent this area, but now it’s only convenient when you need something from a specific store!

Beth S — Google review

Its a nice shopping center, there's different kind of branded store and even thrift store and many more. Plenty of parking space. I just noticed that some stores are closed, maybe because of the pandemic. So sad but I'm sure some stores struggle to keep up the sales.

JJ C — Google review

Huge selection of stores. Only knock "may" be that you are better served driving to each section or specific store so as to not have to walk distances between store groupings. But would certainly not deter anyone from goin as I do enjoy shopping here.

Christopher P — Google review

Upside:Lots of parking, wide walkwaysNot the upside:Most of the stores that seem to stay here are the ones that need absolutely no advertising - and that people specifically drive for- not the kind of outlet to really browse- you know of one store, park near that one, and move along knowing there isn’t much there- North Face and Eddie Bauer are the only ones that really grab our attention due to interest - and frankly we can order online and not have the hassle off the drive. Feels like a relic of the past but not one you drive to- you have to have a “reason.”- I come a couple times a year. Even during the busiest season it doesn’t feel busy.

Emily Y — Google review

Cool little outlet mall. Some shops were closed but the ones open had great deals!! It was raining when we went but there are eaves that kept the rain from hitting us

Alissa T — Google review

Honestly not a great outlet mall. I stopped here with my mom as a brief stop on a road trip and while she found what she wanted at a couple stores, most of what I saw was a few underwhelming stores, some nicer stores outside my Interests and a lot of empty retail spaces. It is certainly large but decollate.

willku9000 — Google review

Regardless of some shops closing before and some during pandemic, the property manager needs to give a care about Hagerstown; it’s just as great and if not better than Clarksburg or Gaithersburg. I still shop here. Put care back into the community and many, many people will shop. The space is here and the parking space can hold bus loads. Fix the property and the finances will flow. Stay invested don’t bail. You’ll see.

The Pennsylvania Dutch Market is a charming hub of mainly Amish-owned merchant shops, offering a wide array of goods and delicacies. From freshly baked goods to cooked meats, popcorn, pizza, chocolates, fudge, bulk candy, pretzels, salads and sides - the market has it all. Visitors can indulge in delicious salted pretzels and generous portions of pulled rib sandwiches.

OMG! This is one of my favorite places to shop for food both prepared and things to prepare at home. It is really dangerous for me to visit. The bakery is just excellent. My favorite pies are the raspberry, chocolate cream, pecan, and caramel apple but they have all kinds. I bought some of each that I mentioned, half and single slices. A nice place to sit and have lunch, delicious home cooked food at a reasonable price or carry-out. We also buy cuts of meat. They are only open Thursday thru Saturday. Check it out if you find yourself in the area.

This place is amazing. It’s a typical PA Dutch Market. There’s a huge selection of fresh baked goods as well as cooked meats, popcorn, pizza, chocolates, fudge, bulk candy, pretzels, salads and sides! They take credit/debit cards here as well. Got a salted pretzel, and it was DELICIOUS! Reminded me of the Auntie’s Anne’s pretzels you get at the mall, but way better! No wonder there was a long line, but highly worth the wait! Got a pulled rib sandwich, and the portions were HUGE, and was very delicious! The smoked brisket here from the meat vendor was amazing as well! Everyone who helped behind the counters were friendly and smiling. I love this place, and will definitely be back to try more items! Parking can be a bit hectic on the weekends, but it’s because they’re packed on the weekends and for good reason, because this place is awesome!

If you are looking for fresh baked breads and foods this place is a must stop. Absolutely hated that each station had their own check out. Historical place museum

The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is a well-curated museum in Frederick, MD that offers an immersive and educational experience through exhibits and life-size dioramas. It provides valuable insight into the medicinal treatment of wounded soldiers during the Civil War and how it paved the way for advancements in battlefield medical procedures that saved countless lives. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about civil medicine.

A wonderfully curated museum. Immersive. Interactive. Educational. So much history and education about a unique time and how the developments during this time in history shaped battlefield medical procedures going forward saving countless lives. Friendly, helpful and well-formed staff. A great experience!

Visited the museum twice this week. The exhibits are great. Had some good conversations with Tracey and Dr. Hill, learned a lot of interesting history! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the gift shop has plenty of books to read and learn more. All in all, this is an incredible museum and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Fairly small museum, with some really cheesy looking mannequins, but worth a visit if you're interested in history or medicine. There's some really interesting things to learn about medicine practices during the war and it really makes you appreciate modern medicine! There's a good gift shop at the end as well with plenty of books for history buffs.

Very educational museum. Plan on spending two hours if you want to read everything. Interesting to learn about the history of hospital systems, ambulances, education of doctors, and nursing. Public parking lot in the rear by the library.

Lots of interesting exhibits here at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in historic Frederick, MD. Most Civil War museums focus on the battles or weapons or famous generals for instance but the main focus here is obviously 19th century battlefield healthcare and medicine which is a unique aspect of Civil War history. The building is easily accessible and features elevators and stairs to get you to the different levels. There is a gift shop with sweet merch. Definitely check this one out!

Timothy S — Google review

You should absolutely make this museum a priority whether you are visiting Frederick, Gettysburg, Baltimore, or Antietam. It is completely worth your time to bookA docent-led tour. We must have asked Tracey 100 questions over 2 hours and she had answers for almost all of them. This was a top highlight of our trip and we can’t stop talking about everything we learned.

Amanda D — Google review

If you are interested in the Civil War and/or medicine, then this museum to visit. It is quit small and can be viewed in about one, to one and a half hours. If you read EVERYTHING, like me then two and a half hours is needed, (keep in mind that I am a slow reader). The museum has some very good artifacts. The information is also detailed and informative. However this museum suffers from what ALL Pennsylvania museums suffer from; mannequins! I have been to many museums in my life but I have never seen such a prolific use of mannequins like I see here. But all in all some of them were ell worth it and added to the descriptions. There are some drawings, diagrams, photos and even mannequins that may be disturbing to look at. So tread lightly or send out a scout. The gift shop could be better stocked with more appropriate items. The last part of the museum has a time line of military medicine throughout history. There is even a mannequin of a modern day army medic; a nice touch. The employees are helpful and the bathrooms are clean. Worth a visit.

There is so much to see and read. They made learning about medicine in the civil war exciting. They also give you a nice little guide to help get you through each section. I recommend for all ages!!

This was an unexpected gem! Very fun, inexpensive, well made and lots of exhibits. You really need about 2 hours! We came an hour before closing and missed out on about a 1/3 of it.

Absolutely fascinating. Totally worth the $10 ea I paid for my wife and I with a Groupon discount. We were there on Veterans Day so they had some special speakers there. We learned so much. Totally worth it. Be prepared to spend 2-3 hours there.

Wonderful museum in Frederick. If you are a medical professional, you'll thoroughly enjoy the historical knowledge shared here. Plan to spend a couple of hours there to see everything.

Downtown Frederick Partnership oversees a 50-block historic district that combines renovated old brick buildings with new developments like Carroll Creek Park. The area boasts a rich display of historic architecture, including commercial, industrial, and religious buildings dating back to the 18th century. Visitors can explore an array of restaurants, antique shops, specialty stores, and museums while admiring the district's murals and public art. Additionally, Downtown Frederick hosts special events such as the Fire and Ice Festival.

Fire and Ice Festival 2023 in downtown Frederick. Daytime pictures only of ice sculptures. There were fire pits with smore stations and ice carving demonstrations. The evening provided more exciting fire baton shows and colorfully lit ice sculptures to enjoy, if you could brave the cold. Well worth the journey. An amazing artistic experience for the whole family.

Frederick has a scenic downtown which is entirely walk-able, and my pictures will show the typical sights. Enjoy being there...lots of shops and places to eat.

Been there for the fire in ice carnival. Colorful and neatly organized. Lots of entertainment on the street and crowd bustling. Nice little carnival kinda fun.

I used to live in downtown Frederick. Great little town! I visit at least twice a month to see mom and to pick up my packages which I can't have delivered to Baltimore due to the increase in porch pirates. I moved to Baltimore City for work but I'll be leaving very soon again for work.Frederick was also where I sold two of my paintings.Frederick is a wonderful place to live when you want the convenience of urban living but not necessarily the dirty, crime ridden parts of real urban living.

one of my most favorite places! I travel a lot and I'm always looking to find something like this to visit in other cities. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of places like this, we are very lucky to have it here in Maryland. By day you can take your children and find something to do and buy night you can have adult fun in the bars and restaurants.

Cunningham Falls State Park

State park

Nature & Parks

Sizable mountainous open space with a man-made lake & the largest cascading waterfall in the state.

Camping experience: Clean bathrooms, quiet in off season, great staff. Wood is $9 a small bag. Some sites more private than others. Overall very nice. Not sure I'll return though as trails and lake is NOT in walking distance to the campground. I don't want to drive to do a hike.

Chelsea P — Google review

The falls are spectacular, but the approach to them is on one of two short boardwalks with a wooden platform for viewing. You are highly discouraged from leaving the boardwalk in order to climb up the falls or across the stream or dip your toe in the water. Clearly that's to protect the environment but I had envisioned sitting at the bottom of the falls with my feet in the water.

David M — Google review

Definitely good place to take the kids. I didn't bring mine, but i plan to bring them back. Yellow trail leads you to the waterfall but 'you have to cross the street' they failed to tell us that so we got half way to hog rock before realizing 🤦🏽‍♀️ but Definitely beautiful, well maintained, and worth visiting.

LaMair J — Google review

Great little piece of the world to visit. We had a beautiful day. The falls was nice. The trails were nice and easy to walk. The beach was quaint. Glad we visited!

Tammy M — Google review

This is a beautiful location to do some hiking and/or enjoy a day along the lake for a swim, kayak or boating. Picnic tables and benches are available in multiple locations along with restrooms. There's also a small nature center but check hours of operation if interested. Hiking trails are well marked. In particular, the trail to the falls is well worn and overall an easy walk. There is also easy entrance and access for the disabled and elderly. Great spot for families . More challenging trails are available. We attended the maple syrup festival here in March. Pancakes, live music, one setup of boiling the syrup and small tractor with small wagon available for rides. Found the event a bit disappointing with no other interactives or vendors present. However, it was a beautiful day and the falls and trails made up for it. In addition there are other interesting things to do in the area. Definitely worth visiting. Be sure to check for operating hours ahead of time.

Patty H — Google review

There is a parking at the trailhead to the falls. The easier trail is about 1/2 mile one way and it is all gravels. There's a slope up and one slope down, with gravels, be sure to wear shoes with traction. If you have stability concerns, walk with someone and rely on them for support. There are bugs in the trails, wear bug spray!! When you get to the falls, there is a short boardwalk that leads to the falls. This is the 3rd time I have been here and the falls is smaller than I had hope. Maybe after a huge rain storm, the falls would get bigger. Think the distribution of water at the top probably determines the size of the falls. If you look closely near the top, you will see several mini falls. It's still nice to see but I don't recommend making a special trip out just to see... Or unless you just want to take a hike and seeing the falls is just something extra. I didn't take the long trail back through the woods as intended, which I did the past 2 times, because one if my pups hurt her leg yesterday and was a little slow today. The trail through the woods was so worth the visit. There are huge rocks/boulders on the trail and you get to climb some. It's a great workout. Definitely come for the hike, not just the falls.

Tilly L — Google review

This is a nice easy walk especially with little kids with minimal elevation gain. You can make it a little longer and steeper by taking the alternate trail that parallels the lower trail. The falls are beautiful. The trail was icey in spots this past week after the rain and sudden drop in temperature but still easy to navigate.

Lilyana V — Google review

We stopped by on a Monday morning in early spring. There were a few cars at the parking lot but we didn't encounter anyone along the way. It was a short and easy stroll from the carpark to the viewing platforms. We decided not to take the cliff trail as it was rocky and not everyone was wearing hiking shoes.

Chris L — Google review

Large park divided into two areas, both of which could easily stand on their own. The falls side, features a 78 ft cascading waterfall and a 43 acre lake complete with swimming area that is monitored by lifeguards during the summer. Tons of picnicking areas with grills, beautiful rock filled trails, a nature center, and a nice bathrooms. The manor side features the ruins of an old brick home and a furnace, a place where they made iron. There are several signs for historical interpretation and some well marked short trails that provide a couple hundred years of history from many aspects. This place is great - well worth the 5$ entry fee.

Anthony P — Google review

Its a beautiful park and we enjoy walking on the trail going to the falls. Entrance is $5 per Car, not per person. They have different parking lot for whereever you want to go. You can choose what level you want to go and we decide to take the easy lower level of the falls which is .5 miles and it was still nice, and you can climb more and choose diff path to take.

JJ E — Google review

Great for family outdoor hiking trip to the falls. Even went all the way to the top with my very energetic 5 yr old son then later he went swimming with the other kids on the lake and went fishing as well.

C.k. C — Google review

A great family friends place to spend time. Inexpensive entry fee. Lots to offer! We swam in the lake and even rented a tandem kayak for an hour! The views surrounding are beautiful. Very peaceful here. Clean renovated restrooms were a plus! Also tons of area to spread out!

Daniel A — Google review

Great campground. Cleanly maintained showerhouses. Nice individual sites, some with electric, some without. There is a camp store if you forget anything but it was closed for most of our visit.Gives you access to the lake, hiking paths, falls, and quick drive to the town of Thurmont for stores, supplies and ice cream.**quick tip: the beach by the lake gets VERY busy in the summer time on a weekend. If you can manage to go on a weekday you’ll have a much more relaxing experience.

Maia R — Google review

Great place to go hike with some cool views. The waterfall is only about a 10 minute walk from the parking. You can complete the loop in less than an hour. Highly recommend when you just wanna get away. Very quite and well maintained.

Josh B — Google review

The Houck camping area is excellent. The falls are cute--don't expect Victoria Falls or something. They're a few small but pleasing cascades over one rock face. The trails are easy to mix and match and generally well blazed. It also abuts Catoctin Mountain Park, run by the National Park Service, which I had the pleasure of visiting as well. The area has generally rocky trails with the option to stay mellow or get some elevation (I was looking for a challenge and was able to get about 3500 ft in 16 hrs). A rocky, foresty gem for outdoors lovers.

A. C — Google review

Lots of great trails for hikers of all levels. There are also handicap parking/trail access areas. There is also a beach/lake area for boating and swimming.Note that due to a lack of rain/snow the 2023 water levels are very low.

Laura I — Google review

Very nice, quiet and many areas to hike. Bathrooms, handicap parking, nature house with turtles and wildlife. Very Very lovely place to visit.

Dollhouse H — Google review

I read an article entitled "Eight places in Maryland you need to visit" which listed Cunningham Falls State Park. It did not disappoint! Although I never found the Falls it was a perfect day. Even the weather cooperated, there was a respite from the typical late August humidity and temperatures. The beach was not crowded at all. There's an area not far from the beach (walking distance) where families were grilling. And the mountain views were absolutely gorgeous!

Jennifer M — Google review

Very pretty trail to hike to the falls. Some areas were a bit steep, and there were wide steps in the hillside. The boardwalk takes you to the base of the falls. However, you could walk past the walkway and hike uphill to the top of the falls. Large rocks to climb, so wear appropriate hiking shoes. Road noise due to the road being nearby. Be cautious, crossing the road!

Tracee C — Google review

Perfect swimming hole, especially for young children since it's shallow and they have ropes to separate different depths. It's so beautiful out here just water and the mountains and the perfect place to disconnect since none of the family had cell service the entire trip. Believe it or not the kids didn't loose their minds not having service and thats how you know we all had a great time! Lol definitely recommend but plan on arriving early as they do fill to capacity. They have beautiful picnic areas and surprisingly clean bathrooms. The north side has a concession stand we all had funnel cake fries they were absolutely delicious they also have a playground but we were too busy fish watching in the water! They have kayak rentals as well we just didn't get a chance to check that out definitely next time

I'm from Southeastern VA. We don't have mountains there. Or hills...even. This place was radically different from what I am used to seeing. Love the rocky terrain, the mountains, the trees. Wish I had the chance to see the waterfalls but that just means I need to come back! Great photo oppurtunies everywhere. Clean park. Would love to come back soon!

Kristy F — Google review

The 10-15 min hike uphill was a little rough for people with varying abilities, stop saying it’s easy when you’re only considering yourself and ego. I likely wouldn’t have hiked up if I had know there was an easier path to the small waterfall base after recently injuring my knee, ankle and toes. Once up trail you’re basically there at the waterfall area. It’s not as clean as it should be and it’s unclear why individuals choose to pollute other than selfish habits passed on by selfish parents.I noticed a deck off of the hikers path and followed it out to where there’s a small parking area for wheelchair accessibility and that’s excellent! It’s a nice wide deck for easy maneuvering and it leads straight to the fall.If you’re physically abled then I do suggest climbing to the top of the waterfall as that’s where the real view is. Nothing super fancy or crowded, but just some rock climbing fun with steeper areas than others. It does get slippery so be mindful and take your time.Kids should be kept close during the climb as there are sharp, slippery and steep ridges. If you go off the regular path you’ll find some nice flora including poison ivy and oak so look up what they look like before your hike so you know what to avoid. And remember, don’t feed wildlife with chemically human food. Bring a small trash bag with you, pick up after yourself and if it’s easy enough to pick up what others left, then just do it.Do better, be kinder and these lands will flourish with you.

So much to do and what a wonderful place for living history. I had no idea what a landmark this place was and how much there is to do. It's a gem of the area with plenty of hiking, landmarks, and forested areas. Watch out when they caution against rattlesnakes. We saw two up on Wolf's Rock chillin between the rock crevices.

Catoctin mountain Park is a great spot with a decent variety of terrain and views. Hikes are pleasant, well marked, and not difficult, and they have free, level 2 charging, in the park. There is a ranger station with friendly, knowledgeable rangers and volunteers, maps, pictures, and useful information. They also sell annual passes.

Nathaniel N — Google review

Comfortable driving distances from Baltimore or Washington DC. There are relaxing walking trails for beginners or people who like challenges. The park rangers at the visitor center are very friendly and resourceful. The facility is clean. Plenty of parking spaces throughout the park which are great. This park is pet friendly. There are also historical perspectives embedded in a few trails. This makes the trip more interesting. The view at several summits are worth of the trip.

Bianca C — Google review

Wolf Rock is underrated! (& of course don't forget to stop by Chimney Rocks ) Definitely one of my favorite hikes in the area, not to mention the park has no fees to get it.

ANNA T — Google review

Beautiful view at Chimney Rock peak. VERY Noisy hike…a good portion of the hike runs along the road. Well-maintained and respected by the masses.

CURLY E — Google review

What a wonderful nps to visit! The ranger and especially a very friendly volunteer shared all types of info on the park, trails, wildlife, and much more on our visit. I only wish I had left more time to explore. I will definitely be back to see more! Free to enter, although there is a donation jar that helps them offset costs.

Mark S — Google review

Peaceful forest with trails of varying ability. Coming in April, the weather was perfect for some mid day hikes while the leaves are starting to grow back. I went during a weekday and crowds were limited. It was nice to see how clean and well maintained the trails were. We also happened to see some spring flowers and a snake in a tree!

Samantha N — Google review

This park is beautiful. It was an easy 1.5 hr drive from Baltimore City, there is no entrance or parking fee. The trails were well maintained with no garbage. The staff at the visitor center were able to give me clear directions to get to the trail that I was looking for, and the bathroom in the visitor center was also clean and well stocked. The only downside was that at Cunningham Falls SO many people were not following the signs that warned that the falls were dangerous, and there were many many young children off the path playing in the falls. All of the signs direct people to stay on the trails/boardwalks.

What a beautiful spot to go on a wonderful hike. Great picturesque mountain lines. Just went on a little hike up the mountain to see what was up. And boy it didn't let me down. So many spectacular spots to take in. Will be back for some more hiking. It's just the beginning. I promise you. You won't be disappointed by beautiful views all around you 😉.

We visited in early August 2023. Mainly visited because Scouts BSA was holding a summer camp out at the Round Meadow Campgrounds. The visitor center was great. There is a exhibit room with a number of things to read about and look at. They also offer a junior ranger program here. There is a small bookstore/gift shop which sells a number of fun items. The staff was super pleasant to talk to and the rangers as well. There is a place to get your National Park Cancellation Stamp as well as junior ranger stamp. I didn't have much time to spend in the visitor center but from what I saw it was great and the bathrooms were nice too. The parking lot was a bit small but I think across the road there was additional parking spots. I visited on a Wednesday morning where there was only 2 other cars in the lot with me. Make the first right turn when coming off the main road. When I visited again on the Saturday morning around 11AM the lot directly in front of the visitor center was basically full. It looked like there was a hiking group or club gathering there ready to go. There also were 2 electric car charging station/ports in the parking lot. I think they may be the first time I've noticed that at any national park site. I included the picture, I'm not sure which ports they were as I don't own a electric vehicle.I did drive through the park itself to get to the camp round meadow and the park was beautiful. Full of trees and multiple small parking lots on the side of the main road for different trails heads I would presume. I would definitely come back for sure and do some hikes. It's not too far out from the DC metro area.Camp Round Meadow itself was great and the facilities we stayed in were also great. The bunk houses and bathrooms were terrific. Especially from scout BSA summer camp standards. There were also some traffic concerns as a presidential summit was taking place at Camp David later in the week and certain roads were closed off as a result but we did get ample warning. Something to just keep in mind before deciding to visit. There was a increase presence of security as well. On the plus side we got to see a bunch of interesting plans fly by. Everyone liked watching the Osprey with it adjustable propellers for vertical landing and take off.

David L — Google review

Very pretty, clean park. Great for hiking, weekdays are the best no one there. Can get crowded on the weekends but is big enough it’s not too bad.

Great views, about an hour from Gaithersburg. Good hiking shoes recommended, for sure as some trails are rocky. The trails are, for the most part, well marked. FYI - they have a really nice visitors center, too.

The Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center is a renowned destination that features scenic trails and an indoor museum dedicated to the Civil War. In 2008, the center moved to a state-of-the-art facility costing $103 million, offering visitors an exceptional experience. The center offers informative movies and knowledgeable guides for students, making it an ideal location for history lovers of all ages.

Always love Gettysburg. Haven’t been here in a number if years. The visitor’s center is great and the overview movie very informative. Had a wonderful guide for our students. Very knowledgeable and gave plenty of information. So much to see and learn.

What an amazing experience this place is! The vast size of this battlefield is awe inspiring. Over 70,000 men lost their lives battling over a 24 acre piece of land, to either keep or do away with slavery. To learn and to actually be able to visualize how far a canon ball weighing 8 pounds could be launched a mile away with a canon two hundred years ago is truly incredible. The museum displays of the uniforms, handguns, rifles and various artifacts is extensive.I enjoyed the bus tour with the tour guide. It was interesting and fun to hear the narrative of the battle and learn about the little to unknown facts about the battle. In order to experience the entire Gettysburg site, it is easily a two day trip. For convenience, there is a small cafeteria in the main building. The new museum building was.built in 2008 and is very clean and modern. There is a good sized souvenir shop in the main building as well. There are also numerous nearby hotels, souvenir shops and restaurants in the City of Gettysburg. For the history buff, this is a must see place to visit.

Jaime B — Google review

What a day! The employees were all kind & informative & our tour guide on the bus was great. Thanks John. Gift shop had something for everyone. Highly recommend the bus tour then driving self on automotive tour (a self drive). They even have many options for free.

Paula S — Google review

My wife needed a wheelchair and the staff were really helpful in getting her one and they helped at all the exhibit entrances. The cyclorama is completely different in a very good way from the use of lights, simulated cannon and gunfire and the narration of events. I went last time 25 years ago but this time they brought it to life. When it gets close to 5 be ready to exit quickly and that includes the gift shop. The rest rooms are cordoned off too.If you have a disabled member of your family take them to the drop off point with benches and then go to the disabled parking which is a 1/4 mile walk to the front entrance.

Gary N — Google review

This is one of the best museum experiences you can have. The museum is filled with history. Don't miss the movie and rotunda experience. The battlefield is HUGE! I recommend doing the auto tour if this is your first visit. There is a beautiful cafeteria with plenty of choices if you get hungry. If your bringing your own food thier are plenty of picnic tables and benches.

Rob S — Google review

So beautiful.Well preserved. It feels alive with all the canons and monuments.Fences look like they have always been here.A must see if you are a fan of history.Get a map and follow the self guided tour. You will not be disappointed.

David W — Google review

What an incredible place. I didn't have enough time to truly explore the entirety of it, as it is so incredibly vast. The bus tour was well worth the money, and comes with a very nice driver and a knowledgeable and friendly guide. Highly recommend that everyone should go, if possible, take a few days to really take it all in. I plan to return for a few days to hike it.

Tori L — Google review

Amazing history! You really get a feel for the place where 51,000 lost their lives over a three day time period. I started to whistle while we walked, and then stopped as this is hallowed ground. Beautiful area.

Kristen A — Google review

History lesson at its best. Recommend starting with Cyclorama & Narrated movie to help put all the pieces together. So much took place over the 3 days of the fighting, that it is so helpful to get the overview. There is an App for the battlefield tour that guides you along the way. Very effective. There is also an App for all of the National Parks that adds extra content before heading out. Parking lots full of licenses from all over the US.

Daryl H — Google review

My significant other and I went here on vacation and it was wonderful. They have packages that are affordable, including a bus tour, and access to the museum. The park rangers do a lot of informative activities as well that are free. You could easily spend an entire day here between the tours (they have a self guided car version, an informative bus tour), the museum, and the additional activities run by the museum and parks department. The gift shop is beautiful, and reasonable as well. The staff at the front desk was very helpful and informative about what to take advantage of. I would visit here again if given the opportunity.

Zoe W — Google review

I would give it a 5 star but the cost to get in makes in inaccessible to many people. (Just over $20 as of Nov. 2023). The movie was a great summary of what led to the battle at Gettysburg and touched on the aftermath. It was better than I had expected. The cyclorama was impressive when you learn that it is an actual oil painting from the turn of the century - and moved to Gettysburg in 1913. It went through a restoration and if you are a fan of history or art, this is a must see.

Randi A — Google review

Great experience with the family. One of the rangers was amazing teaching our daughter more about Gettysburg. We enjoys the self guided tour (the app is free and has audio to go with the tour) and the monuments had great descriptions to them. Really felt Abraham Lincoln’s words while reading the Gettysburg address at the cemetery.

Kyle J — Google review

Amazing experience. Very moving. The museum is well done and the cyclorama was fantastic! We also took the Gettysburg tour bus around the battlefields. The tour guide was knowledgeable and had a sense of humor. If you're in the area its well worth the stop.

Gettysburg National Military Park-AMAZING!I am a lover of American history and have visited many historical sights, memorials, and battlefields, Gettysburg is one of the best I have seen. The number of monuments, markers, and displays not only in the museum but all around the battlefield is just incredible. From the video in the visitor's center/ museum to the driving path, there is so much to see and learn. We downloaded the National Parks app which has a link to a free audio-guided tour. Loved it!I suggest- seeing the video, seeing the museum, driving the tour with the audio guide, and seeing the Gettysburg cemetery. See the spot where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address.

This is a must place to visit when you are in Gettysburg. Great place to learn about our history. Highly recommend this place for any age. They have a junior ranger program for kids. You would need a minumum of 3-4 hrs just for the museum alone. Very educational. Interesting facts and exhibits. Everyone was friendly and accomodating. They have a gift shop too. Overall a great experience.

The Gettysburg Battlefield stands as a solemn testament to the courage and sacrifice of those who fought there. Walking through its hallowed grounds, one can't help but feel a profound sense of reverence for the thousands who gave their lives in the struggle for freedom. The meticulously preserved landscapes and monuments serve as poignant reminders of the brutality and heroism that unfolded during those fateful days in July 1863. Visiting Gettysburg is not merely a journey through history; it's a pilgrimage to honor the enduring legacy of those who fought and died for a cause greater than themselves.

This is a really nice park, very educational, and very clean. The prices in the gift shops and restaurants are on the higher side, but that’s to be expected at a tourist trap. I downloaded one of the self-guided tours for my iPhone, and I have to say that it was one of the best things that I've done while visiting Gettysburg. The tour was extremely informative, and it's well laid out and worked well with my Google Maps, so I knew exactly where to go.

Thomas P — Google review

I agree with that don't eat here because the prices are ridiculous and it's not run by the park service or anybody at the visitor center. It's like a third-party hired out café and the food is really bad quality.! The museum bookstore had an author signing, so we looked out and got a historical book for our son, author: William Styple signed! there's some snacks available there lots of historical books, lotta tchotchkes it seemed very commercialized like you can get a coffee mug with Gettysburg and Abraham Lincoln bubblehead lol. bus tours are $40 for adults. I can't remember the prices for kids and they have four of those that leave Daley. It looks like I'm not sure if it's going to change later in spring or summer hours and the visitor center is nice and the upkeep is nice, and the restrooms are clean. Very windy out on the battlefield. there is a tour where you sit in your car and watch a couple videos at various stop so you can get out and then there's the walking tour that takes about an hour and a half and then there's the bus tours that take about two hours..My family recommends the auto & walking tours, download the app. Learning about an important war in our country, shouldn't be considered a Tour strap and shouldn't be so much money specially if people need chip jars so apparently they're not getting paid a living wage which is a whole other story but yes, recommend going to Gettysburg at least once in your life and it's quite educational if you download the free tour...

Hard to understand the battle of Gettysburg without ever visiting the site. We tried to do the driving tour in two hours but didn't finish. I would recommend at least 2 days just to be able to get a good grasp of the site.

Solidify our history in our hearts and learn what it took to be what we are today! The park center is new and very spacious with plenty to see. Check out the presentation and learn about the way at Gettysburg. Large bookstore with tons of history and lots for the kids as well.Don’t forget your passport stamps.

I visited on a Thursday morning. We were on our way home so had limited time. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We unfortunately did not have the time to go thru the museum. What I read indicates you need 4 hours. There is one hall that you can view for free. It consists of a lot of items that have been found on the battleground. It was very interesting. They have a map of the battleground park available however it is not very accurate. Google was very helpful finding the memorials we wanted to see. We look forward to coming back and spending more time. The park is well maintained and well labeled. There are a lot of options for how you tour the park. Self-guided, with a group and there are options for private guides. The heritage guides even dress up. You can use guides from the park itself and there are lots of companies that offer guides as well.

The cyclorama is an amazing experience both in presentation and as an actual piece of history itself. It could easily take 2 days for a history buff to properly tour the museum and the gift shop prices were lower than expected.

So beautiful.Well preserved. It feels alive with all the canons and monuments.Fences look like they have always been here.A must see if you are a fan of history.Get a map and follow the self guided tour. You will not be disappointed.

Loved it!I suggest- seeing the video, seeing the museum, driving the tour with the audio guide, and seeing the Gettysburg cemetery. See the spot where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address.

Cemetery

The Gettysburg National Cemetery in Pennsylvania is a historical landmark that serves as a memorial to the Union soldiers who lost their lives during the American Civil War. It was established in 1863 and features the resting place of 3,512 brave soldiers. The cemetery is open daily for visitors to pay homage to these fallen heroes and appreciate its beautiful grounds. Additionally, it serves as an important reminder of our nation's past and represents a significant piece of national history.

This is a very nice cematary. It's sad to see all tge soldiers killed here. We went on a perfect day with a breeze. The trees are so beautiful as well. Loved walking around here and it's in the perfect spot.

I loved seeing the battle field's to sit and think of what happened here. To see our own fighting against our own for a better life for all. Both sides had their reasons. Both sides understood the cost. Now, we live in a world where no one understands the cost of freedom. Now, everyone looks the other way and forgets.I served in 2-2 Infantry for 10 years. A lot of the pictures are of 2-2 Infantry.Dedicated to my fallen brothers.

I was there in June and stayed at a hotel right across the street from it. I walked around and paid my respects to various soldiers both from the union and from the confederate side. I was very touched by this visit. I felt I was being watched but excepted by their spirits. The first two pictures below are of union soldiers from Illinois from the state I live in.

Our motel was close too here. We walked it ourselves in a self guided tour. Lots of status and plaques too read. So many people died it really gives you more of a perspective on the sacrifices that were made. I couldn't believe all the graves marked unknown. You can easily walk through here in under two hours. So many rabbits were running around and were not even scared of us as we approached. If you have small children they will definitely be bored walking through here. Part of the cemetery was closed and blocked off so we were unable too walk it.

Nicole G — Google review

We have been to the Gettysburg Soldiers National Cemetery several times; however, this year we had the opportunity to experience all of the flags on the graves during Memorial Day. Was a great site to see and experience. Full blog post and video on our website.

Great Cemetery loaded with monuments and history. Definitely worth a stop. November 1863 Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address just a short distance from this location. The Gettysburg Address monument and the Soldiers Monument are two main attractions in the Cemetery although you'll also have thr graves of over 3500 union soldiers and Jenny Wade.

Brandon E — Google review

A very moving place to visit. It was emotional. This is our history, and we hope it will forever be preserved. People were very respectful as they walked through.

The experience at Gettysburg was a solemn venture. It is a free self-guide tour, or if you want a more detailed experience, there are available tour guides in the area. Our family choose the self guided exploration of the grounds. It was an honor to walk among the beautiful landscape, immaculate stones, and to see the craftsmanship of the monuments here. There is a bit of walking, so make sure to bring some water or even a snack. The park can be fully explored in few hours. There was a parking lot adjacent to the park that had adequate parking. There is also a museum on the grounds, but it was not open when we visited here. What a great source of American history for the family! A must see if you’re traveling in the area!

Tref — Google review

We went on a Sunday morning, which was perfect. We were the only people there. The quiet added to the stillness and solemn nature of the location. The monuments are magnificent. The sheer number of grave markers is daunting. Parking is easy, across the street, which is cool, as it keeps the cemetery quieter.

BB — Google review

What a experience when we walked around the cemetery among so many graves…..so much history, which keep reminding us don’t forget the past and learn from the past…..The cemetery is very close to the National Military Park visitor center and museum, an easy two minutes drive. There is a parking lot right across the street from the entrance of the cemetery, no vehicles are allowed in the cemetery.

Anna X — Google review

Although there are many monuments, there are none that clearly identify where exactly Lincoln gave his timeless Gettysburg Address. Who would no since there are no pictures or vids? No matter! If you listen closely, you can almost hear the speech whispering in the wind. Walking among the graves of fine soldiers is a solemn and humbling experience. I’m honored to have visited. I highly recommend going and giving your children a somber learning experience.

Jennie Wade House is a museum dedicated to civilian casualty Jennie Wade. It exhibits items related to domestic wartime life and contains information about the first and only civilian casualty of the Battle of Gettysburg.

This was a very good experience. A lot of history. I loved that we got to tour the house and got to free roam. Also all tge stories about Jennie and her family were great. I would definitely do this again if I went to Gettysburg. The only thing I didn't like is the tour guide didn't stay with us long and walk around tge house. But this was definitely great and a must visit. This was my favorite tour so far in Gettysburg.

KJ's R — Google review

Historically Jenny Wade is known as the only Civilian killed in the three days Battle of Gettysburg. At twenty years old, baking bread for the Union soldiers, would prove to be fatal. The small home is incredibly still in tact and battle worn, with evident bullet holes and bullets lodged into the frame in which they've sat for the past century and a half.It is surreal to stand within the walls of the home and be told the events that had unfolded here.In all of the homes that I visited in Gettysburg, I think it was here in the Jenny Wade home that I was able to envision the battle from a civilian perspective the best and how horrific that side of the battle must have been, as well.Great tour, fair price, and friendly staff. A must stop location while trying to experience and understand the battle from all perspectives. My only dislike regarding the property is how commercialized the surrounding area has became. The home, is easily bypassed, sitting almost in the shadow of a rather looming hotel. While its easy to get lost in time from the inside, on the outside, the modernized surroundings makes it almost impossible to truly connect with the past.Recommended, following up this tour with a stop at the local cemetery where you can locate fairly easily Jenny's grave.

We visited on Easter Sunday due to not observing the holiday. They were open from 12pm-3pm which was appreciated! The workers were clad in time-appropriate fashions. The gift shop, upon entering, has so many neat nick-nacks and locally made crafts!Jennie's sister's house was quite a sobering experience that I will forever appreciate the opportunity to have had.Because I went early in the season, my family had a seven minute intro by a worker whom showed us the bullet holes, and then allowed us to tour the home on our own with the help of a detailed brochure. As we walked through the house on our self-guided tour, it was almost a more personal experience than if a guide were to walk with us. We were able to be alone in the kitchen where Jennie leaned over her dough tray, selflessly making biscuits for union soldiers. We were able to see the hole where her poor family carried her body to the neighbors house a down into the cellar where her body rested until it was safe to bury. This was a great place to stumble upon, and one that I was not aware of prior to planning my Gettysburg trip.Make sure to visit the place where an innocent civilian lost her life as a result of the Battle of Gettysburg.

This was a pleasant surprise touring Gettysburg! Some interesting details outside and inside made the start more intriguing! The date of the house and literal size was the most surprising! Some wonderful cherished items from the family etc. Of course some difficult items from the war showed up as well...the basem*nt a must see!

Craig T — Google review

Unfortunately we weren’t able to go in because the there were no more tours available on that day. But we roomed around the house and it was really nice. My fiancé put her finger through the bullet hole. If you you have been here, you probably know what this means.Poor Jennie.

Cool place to visit. The guide provides all the information you need before walking through the house. The basem*nt was a little creepy because of the doll covered in the bed. The house is small so your tour will be short.

Our tour guide Allison was amazing! She was kind, very knowledgeable and passionate about the history and spirits in the Jennie Wade house! You can tell she truly loves and is passionate about the Jennie Wade house and Gettysburg! What also makes Allison our tour guide special is she is retired from the Air Force. Thank you Allison for your service!!If you go to Gettysburg we highly recommend the Jennie Wade House! I did feel some kind of energy in the house. When we came out of the basem*nt at the end of the tour a few of us smelled rosemary coming from the basem*nt. I think I might of also captured a spirit in one of the many photos I took. I think it is the shadow man that Allison said hangs around this particular spot in the photo.

i think anyone who knows anything about Gettysburg knows about Jennie Wade and how she was the only civilian fatality of the battle (from direct gunfire). the staff is very friendly. the House is amazing to see. a bit small for people of my height to get through.I did enjoy the house and artifacts. one of my daughters feels like she was very similar to Jennie in stature and felt connected to her in some way. would recommend.

Mickey W — Google review

I have been to Gettysburg a hundred times and hadn’t been to the Jennie Wade house until this year. I stopped in on a Saturday in late October. I didn’t book ahead and I don’t even know if that’s an option. Arrived around 3 and was able to get in on the 4:15p tour. The house is between the graveyard and Reid’s Winery/Cidery. So if you have to wait, it’s easy to find something else to do in the meantime. The guided part of the tour was quick - 10 min or so. The guide gave a description of Jennie and her family and what happened leading up to the house being fired on. It was interesting and I never knew the whole story. This wasn’t actually where Jennie lived - that house is down on Breckinridge street and is a private residence but I was told there are signs so you know you are at the right house if you want to see how far it was that she walked - it’s not very far. Anyway, after the short guided tour, you are just walk through on your own. There might have been 20 people total on this tour but it didn’t feel cramped or rushed. There is an adjacent parking lot but that is for the hotel guests. I parked on the street which is metered and I had no trouble finding a spot. I paid around $2.50ish for 2 hours. There is a little gift shop attached to the house selling everything from Christmas ornaments to Jennie dolls, mugs and candy.I paid $10 and change with a AAA discount for the tour.

Miss V — Google review

This is a must stop if you know your history, but for a family of 4 it was $47 and the guide really didn’t share much before turning us loose. He talked about 5 minutes and it only took less than 10 minutes to see everything. That was disappointing. Now, that being said, if you knew about Jack Skelly and Wesley Culp, about the bullet ricochet on the mantle, the bed style being a rolling pin bed that passer comes off that allows you to “hit the hay” all of these small stories would have made it seem more like a value.

A great piece of American History. Jennie Wade was the only civilian killed in the Battle of Gettysburg.

Short tour. Very cool history. I'd definitely recommend this and stop at some local shops after doing the app tour of the battlefield. personal note there's no restrooms. you have to find one down the street somewhere. Found it very sad that she lost her life making biscuits after the bullet went through two doors. And I love biscuits and gravy....

A short, self guided tour through a historic house in Gettysburg. The tragic story of Jennie Wade was beautifully explained by our guide before she left us to walk around the property. If you haven't taken this short tour, I highly recommend exploring the history of this story and home.

The tour guide was amazing and you could tell how passionate she was about the history of Jenny and the house itself. The house has several bullet holes through it and the basem*nt was very somber. A great experience I would definitely recommend for the low price it cost

The Gettysburg Museum of History is a fascinating place where visitors can explore the history of America's wars. The museum has more than 4,000 artifacts covering events from the American Revolution to modern times, and there are several exhibits to check out. Admission is free, and there is a gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs to take home with you.

Awesome museum with so many cool historical items! A LOT bigger than it looks on the outside

Free museum-privately owned. Tons of excellent exhibits! Well worth the stop. Not only civil war but also Kennedy, WW II, Vietnam, etc. exhibits.

This place is super cool! Tons and tons of interesting and authentic items, mostly focused on war history, but with some cool Us Presidents items as well. There’s a lot of stuff in a small place, so you have to look closely to see everything. Some of the items are pretty gruesome, but tell an interesting story of history.

Tucked in and easily missed, if you're not careful! This is a locally owned gem of a museum where one can purchase artifacts within! Starting as a boy and receiving other neighbors' collections of Civil War items; this expanded into a variety of collectibles from many eras and walks of life. Strongly recommended as must visits.

So many incredible and rare things on display. The best part is that the museum is completely free and runs by donation. Well worth a stop any time you're in town.

Really cool stuff to see and very rare items. I think the guy running it has reached his end point of dealing with people visiting. No excitement left. I'd find new people with excitement and willingness to teach and talk to help. It's free so that cool.

This place is really cool. It is also free donations are recommended. They have stuff from the civil war along with other wars. Things from past presidents. So much packed into her and a lot of stuff is for sale. They have as seen on tv signs here. I guess the American picker guys have been here . They also have a small gift shop located in the back. Definitely recommend this place. Kids may find some stuff cool. Would definitely recommend going without kids so you can really take it all in. They have so much to see and read about. A must for any history enthusiast. I would say they had the biggest collection we saw while in Gettysburg.

Must visit museum in Gettysburg. Small but it’s filled with really cool artifacts and a lot of history. You will learn a lot. They have a small gift shop and metered street parking only. Admission is free. Highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area. We will be back.

Saw the great reviews and decided to visit as I have a couple of hours to burn. Not sure what to make out of it. It is rather small and crammed. I will not say I gained much real knowledge from my visit.Wanted to buy some souvenirs from the gift shop. They do not come with boxes for the cups / glasses I was eyeing to bring back but was told they only provide plastic bags. Decided to just get one cup as I’m not sure if the items can survive the long haul back home.

It is an absolute shame how this man runs this place! He accepted special treasured war memorials from family members of World War II veterans. Now he is only open on weekends. His Internet site said he's only closed on Tuesdays. I'm a big fan of the History Traveler and made a special trip to see this place. I show up on a Wednesday and a sign says they're closed and only open on weekends. A UPS truck pulls up and a woman opens the door. I told her I drove up special from Florida to see the museum and she could not have shut the door fast enough and told me we're closed.I can't believe he accepted war treasures from The Band of Brothers members under these circ*mstances. It's my way of paying my respects as I go to each Museum to honor what the greatest generation has done. I was also prepared to make a large donation to the museum.I would think the wifes and children of these war heroes would want their veterans treasures back to go to a museum that would display them at least 6 days a week.I also can't believe the YouTube history Travelers series now attaches themselves to this third class Museum.

Interesting museum in Gettysburg (not just Civil war history). It is one man's collection and is free, so make a donation or buy something from the gift shop.

We drove up from York to see the museum and at first the kids weren't interested in going but once there they were enthralled with all to look at . It's amazing how much he has collected from the wars and presidents. As a military family we appreciate the care that was taken to preserve all the medals and military artifacts. Definitely worth walking through while visiting Gettysburg.

A beautiful sight seeing experience. This historic location is a must see place while visiting the battlefields of Gettysburg. Make sure to take lots of pictures and look up the history as well.

Pretty cool free museum. They do encourage donations. Alot of cool stuff packed on here. They also have some authentic items for sale.

I love history and I remember visiting Gettysburg on my 8th grade field trip in 2003 and 20 years later I revisited it and was still amazed by it. Definitely recommend to any history buffs! So much to see and so much to learn.

Incredible pieces of history from various time periods, mainly the Civil War and WWII eras. There is also a room entirely dedicated to JFK and a corner with Lee Harvey Oswald.Recommend to dedicate 45-90 minutes to read most displays and look at just about everything. My fiancé and I spent about 75min total, with about 15min looking to purchase a relic by the front desk. Staff was also very friendly. Free to public. Make a donation to support operations as they are not funded by federal or state.

Great museum for everyone. Real artifacts with true history. I would recommend this over any other museum. You won't find another museum with this much history in town.

Literally one of the coolest museums I have been too. Even got to see the owner Eric Dorr but i think he was irritated he got called in by someone and so i didn’t want to bug him, but there are things here you’ll see nowhere else. You can even buy artifacts. If you like the store, you can also follow History Traveler on YouTube that features the shop frequently.

We really enjoyed the Gettysburg museum and surrounding exhibits. After going through the indoor museum and exhibits, make sure to take some walks and do the entire driving tour. You become very familiar and oriented with this important event, and you can better relate to the people involved. There was so much to see that we spent an extra half-day to get as much in as possible. It was very interesting and informative, very well done!! We will be back.

I thought the place was extremely neat overall. The reason for the missing star is that I was denied service on something. As a collector of these sort of items, I was thrilled to see a sign saying that some of what was on display was for sale. When I asked about it, I was told that nothing on display was for sale and i would have to check the website. Maybe I'm confused, but if I was denied service because of my youth, I'm quite upset. To provide some context, im a month short of 18. Anyhow, besides the customer service, I think it was a neat museum with tons of cool stuff to check out.Edit: I feel it's quite evident I wasn't allowed to purchase merchandise because of my young appearance. I checked the website, and most of the stuff on display was for sale there. I can say that although the stuff is unbelievably cool, they lost a customer. I would've most definitely purchased from them, but basing who you are and arnet willing to at least show around based on age is downright crude.
