OSRS Tempoross Guide | How to play + Best Strategies (2024)

In this guide for Tempoross, we’ll cover everything you need to know to tackle the Fishing boss, one of the primary Fishing Training methods in OSRS with a ton of useful rewards.

Turn on an AFK in the background and let’s get started.

What is Tempoross?

Tempoross is a skill boss for the Fishing Skill in OSRS. Skill bosses are similar to minigames, although not officially classified as such. During a Tempoross encounter, players work together to defeat the boss in designated Tempoross worlds.

Unlike traditional bossing, Tempoross does not involve combat. Instead, players catch fish, load them into harpoons, and shoot them at the boss.

You can start the minigame, I mean skill boss, from the Ruins of Unkah.

To get there, take the boat outside the Al Kharid bank.

The only requirement is a Fishing level of 35.

So how does it work?

Start your first game by getting on the big ship. Make sure you are in one of the official Tempoross worlds.

Once Tempoross is started, you will land on an instanced island named Tempoross Cove.

The island contains two symmetrical sides. Which side you spawn on doesn’t change anything, since they are identical.

At the start of the game, you first spawn on the Tempoross Boat.

The starting location contains everything you need during the skill-boss:

• Harpoon: to catch Harpoonfish
• Hammer: to repair the mast/totem whenever they break
• Rope: to tether yourself to a mast/totem whenever a colossal wave approaches
• Buckets: to douse the fire from storm clouds

You may also notice two cannons, with Ammo Crates alongside them. That’s where you’ll put your caught fish, to shoot at Tempoross.

You can either add RAW or COOKED fish to the ammo crates, more on that later.

These Harpoonfish will deal damage to Tempoross’ Energy Bar.

Once this bar is at 0, we head into phase 2.

The HUD explained

The HUD for Tempoross has three bars:

• Energy Bar: Starts at 100% and goes down from harpoon fish cannons
• Essence Bar: Starts at 100%, and only goes down during phase 2 where players are harpooning the spirit pool to drain its essence
• Storm Intensity Bar: starts at 0%, once it goes up to 100% you lose the game

Game Phases

Tempoross has two phases:

• Phase 1: starts when Tempoross’ energy is at 100%
• Phase 2: starts when Tempoross’ energy is at 0%

Phase 1

During this phase, Tempoross Energy is anywhere from 1%-100%. Players are required to load the cannons with Harpoonfish to drain Tempoross’ energy.

Cooked Harpoonfish take longer, but they deal more damage to the energy bar.

Once Tempoross’ Energy bar reaches 0%, phase 2 starts.

Phase 2

This phase starts when Tempoross’ energy reaches 0%.

During this phase, players have to fish at the spirit pool to drain the Essence of Tempoross.

Once Tempoross’ Energy bar reaches 100%, phase 1 begins again.

During most games, you will have to go through phases 1 & 2 at least twice.

Once Tempoross’ Essence bar reaches 0%, the game ends in victory!

Tempoross’ Attacks

Tempoross of course doesn’t just sit idly as you drain his energy, he retaliates with special attacks.

These attacks don’t deal any damage, but cause you to lose fish, slowing down your progress, reward points, and experience.

Here’s a rundown of every attack.

Colossal wave

During this random event, an unavoidable colossal wave approaches the entire island. The only way to prevent yourself from being washed away and losing harpoonfish is by tethering yourself with a rope to a totem (on the beaches) or the mast (on the boat).

Before the wave commences, you will get a RED message in your chatbox.

You’ll also notice that the NPCs start shouting that a colossal wave is approaching.

During the colossal wave, your screen will start to shake a little followed by the entire screen turning blue.

If you see any of these signs, quickly tether yourself to the totem if you are fishing/cooking or to the mast if you are on the boat.

If you fail to tether yourself in time, or you don’t have a rope on you, you will be knocked to the ground and lose some items.

The colossal wave only occurs during Phase 1.

Totem/Mast breaks

Sometimes, a colossal wave may break the totem or mast.

If this happens, use a hammer to fix it to prevent being hit by the next colossal wave.

Storm clouds

Tempoross is continuously attacking the island with lightning clouds, sometimes these cause fires.

If you run inside a fire, you lose some items. I’ve frequently lost my rope by being negligent around these, so pay attention!

To douse a fire, you need to have a bucket of water on you.

The boat contains a crate with buckets and there’s a water pump next to the spirit pool to fill them up.

You get 40 reward points for each fire you douse, so make sure to always keep a couple of buckets of water on you for easy points.

Lightning Attacks on Cannons

Every now and then, Tempoross may strike the cannons, causing them to be electrified and temporarily unusable.

If you happen to be using the cannon while it gets zapped, you will be stunned for a little while.

Gaining Reward Points

While the exp rates are good, Tempoross is primarily done for its rewards.

You get points for each action in Tempoross. Starting at 2,000 points, you are awarded 1 reward permit.

This goes up to 2 at 2700, 3 at 3400, and 4 at 4,100.

Once you get the hang of it, you should be able to stack 4 to 5 reward permits per game!

Here’s how reward points are given:

• Fishing: 5 reward points/fish
• Cooking: 10 reward points/fish
• Adding RAW Harpoonfish to Cannon: 20 points/fish
• Adding COOKED Harpoonfish to Cannon: 65 points/fish
• Harpooning Spirit Pool; 55 points/every couple of ticks
• Repairing totem/mast: 40 points
• Dousing fires: 40 points

Let’s play Tempoross!

Now that you know the basics, let’s start a game.

First, hop to an official world (422) and make your way to the Ruins of Unkah.

To get there, take the boat behind the Al Kharid bank.

Once at Ruins of Unkah, start your game by boarding the ship.

Once the game starts, pick up items and set up your inventory like this:

• Harpoon (Dragon Harpoon if possible)
• Rope (to tether yourself to the mast/totem)
• 1+ buckets of water (to dove fire clouds)
• Hammer (to repair the mast/totem when broken)

Best Strategies

There are two ways to play Tempoross:

• Prioritize Rewards Permits
• Prioritize Fishing XP/hr

I recommend you prioritize reward permits first, as you can unlock some neat rewards such as the Fishing Barrel which holds 28 extra fish per inventory.

Prioritize Permits/hr

This strategy allows you to get 5-6 permits per hour, and 30-40k fishing exp/hr.

• Fish 10 Harpoonfish and cook them
• While cooking, look out for the double fishing spot and instantly go over there when it opens up
• Fill up the rest of your inventory, then cook the fish
• Load up the cannons with cooked fish once your inventory is full
• Repeat!

Pay close attention to the energy bar, as soon as it hits 0% you have to make your way to the Spirit pool where you get the most points.

You’ll also want to keep a close eye out for Tempoross Attacks. Douse every fire you come across and always repair the totem whenever it breaks. These actions reward 40 points each and can easily result in an additional 500-600 points per game.

Prioritize XP/hr

To get the most exp/hr, simply focus on fishing and loading up the cannon as much as possible. Keep an eye out for every double fishing spot and also head to the Spirit Pool as soon as Phase 2 starts.

With this strategy, you can gain 55-70k fishing xp/hr.

The rewards

To collect your reward, head to the reward pool located next to the bank.

The reward-system is based on RNG, so you have to be lucky!

For each permit you have, you get to fish once inside the reward pool using a small fishing net.

The NPC next to the reward pool will give you a net if you don’t have one.

Using the Reward Permits you gained from participating in Tempoross, you get to fish at the Reward Pool.

The reward pool is found just behind the bank at the Ruins of Unkah.

For every Reward Permit you have, you get to fish once using a small fishing net. If you don’t have a small fishing net, the NPC next to the reward pool can give you one.
